The Alpine A110 is a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car introduced by French car manufacturer Alpine at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show in March 2017.

The Alpine A110 Berlinette, one of the rally legends of old, turns 50 this year and to mark the event, parent company Renault has crafted a new concept model in its name that will make its world premiere at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.

"We wanted to make a Berlinette that was of our time, and which boldly embodies Renault's passion for motorsport. We were guided by our hearts and emotions," said Renault Concept and Show Car Director, Axel Breun.
Instead of developing and designing a concept model from scratch, Renault stylistically modified the body of the production-intent, all-electric DeZir sports coupe concept from the 2010 Paris Motor Show, and placed it atop of the Megane Trophy racecar, which as you may imagine, is not mechanically related to the production model.
The carbon-fiber bodywork of the A110-50 study combines a new shade of blue that reinterprets the famous original ‘Alpine Blue’ with orange accents. Being a track focused model, the Alpine also features an array of aero components such as the front spoiler, protruding side skirts, a rear diffuser and a large wing.
Other differences over the DeZir include the Alpine A110-inspired half-domed additional lamps that feature LED yellow lighting, air-intakes on each side of the car and 21-inch wheels with a single central nut that are wrapped around in road homologated Michelin tires.
Opening the scissor doors reveals an uncluttered, competition-focused cockpit with Sabelt bucket seats and full harness belts, a roll cage and a racing steering wheel that incorporates a color screen, which houses the same technology as a Formula Renault 3.5 single-seater to provide drivers with all the information they need.
Under the carbon fiber body lies a strengthened version of the Megane Trophy's tubular chassis. The wheelbase of the Alpine A110-50 is identical to that of Mégane Trophy at 2,625mm, while the track is slightly wider at 1,680mm on the front and 1,690mm on the rear. According to the automaker, the Alpine A110-50 has a kerb weight of 880kg or about 1,940 pounds. Renault says the final weight distribution is almost ideal, with 47.8 percent hanging over the front wheels.
The Alpine A110-50 makes use of the Megane Trophy's V4Y engine, which is Renault's internal designation for the Nissan VQ 3.5-liter V6. In this application, the V6 delivers 400hp at 7,200 rpm and 422Nm (311 lb-ft) at 6,200 rpm. A semi-automatic six-speed sequential gearbox drives the rear wheels through a limited slip differential.
Renault says that in order to improve driver feedback, it has not fitted the car with any type of driving aids like ABS and traction control. Stopping power is provided by large 356mm-diameter steel discs with six-piston calipers at the front, and 330mm discs with four-piston calipers at the rear.
While the French automaker has not publicized any plans to produce the Alpine A110-50 Concept, the automaker's top brass has suggested that it would like to re-introduce the Alpine brand in the very near future.

It looks like a 911 GT3 and R8 GT killer, but with a curb weight of 880 kg it really is.

IMO 200-250 PS, 1200-1300 kg and 35.000-40.000 € this car is a futur failure, just like the Renault Wind, Renault Vel Satis, Renault Avantime and many other. It has no chance in the against the GT86/BRZ, except in France, where they are the most hated cars. France got only 37 BRZ and 250 GT86 allocations for the whole year 2012.

The will always be French patriots that will buy A110 just as they buy the overpriced underperforming RCZ.
Also neo-retro styling is an other fail. Why can't they leave it as is, weighing max. 1100 kg and powered by the NA 3.5l V6 making 350 PS ?

I'd say that it's actually an impressive effort from the people who invented cologne to avoid taking a shower.

If I could afford it, I would probably buy it. It's as good looking as the RCZ is.

And the RCZ is actually a very nice car with proper french suspension (trailing arms) in the rear. That means nothing else than lift-off oversteer ;)

I been ignoring this under the impression it is just another hybrid concept. How wrong I was. This thing sounds more like F1 of yore than even LFA.

Yupp. Its about time we see France stand up for itself by producing a sports car. There are plenty of French F1 drivers out there and next year might see the comeback of France to the F1 calendar. I cant contain my excitement for what will come out of this.

Design work already done
A recent report indicates Renault’s Alpine sports brand launch in 2016 is running on schedule.

Speaking to WhatCar during the Paris Motor Show, Renault boss Carlos Ghosn said "while it would have been better to split the investment with a partner, it wasn’t possible to agree it". He also went on to say that "now it is better that we go alone – and the project is continuing as planned".

The French brand’s chief designer Laurens van den Acker also confirmed the project is continuing as planned, saying "now we are in sole charge of our destiny" and "we have made some good progress". He also added that "Caterham brought a lot of experience to the team, especially in its knowledge of rapid prototyping and setting up a sports car, so it was a shame to lose them".

Last month it was announced design work for the 2016 Alpine has been completed and the project is on its way for a late 2015 or early 2016 debut.

New concept due next month at Le Mans
The 2012 Renault Alpine A110-50 concept has been digitally transformed into a production version.

Renault is very serious about putting the legendary "Alpine" name back on the map and word on the street says a new concept will be unveiled on June 13 at the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race. The production version is slated to come out in 2016 and the plan is to build around 3,000 cars each year, a number which could be increased to 5,000 units in case of a higher demand.

Renault's Alpine project originally started as a collaboration with Caterham but following a few disputes the two automakers cancelled their association and decided to continue development individually. Renault's variant will be assembled in Dieppe, northern France and will cost between €30,000 and €35,000. Some of the bits and pieces are going to be sourced from Nissan and Daimler while underneath the hood there should be a four-cylinder, 1.6-liter turbo generating up to 250 bhp (186 kW).

It is believed the model will be commercialized with the "AS1" moniker, meaning Alpine Sport 1. Renault executive vice president Bruno Ancelin has already expressed his intentions of launching other Alpine-branded models, including hybrids and SUVs.

Renault has started a countdown until the official release of an Alpine-related "beautiful surprise" on Saturday.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Alpine, Renault is expected to show a near-production concept of a sportscar programmed to go on sale sometime in 2016 with the legendary moniker. It will be part of a new lineup of Alpine-branded vehicles and could be sold without the diamond logo.

Tentatively called AS1 (Alpine Sport 1), the vehicle started life as a joint venture with Caterham but even though the collaboration between the two ended some time ago, both automakers are still working on their own versions. The AS1 is estimated to cost €30,000 for the base model and go up to €35,000 for the fully-loaded version and will be assembled in northern France at the Dieppe factory.

We don't know for sure what will power the AS1, but the rumor mill points to a four-cylinder, 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with as much as 250 bhp (186 kW). It might not sound overly impressive, but the vehicle is expected to weigh just 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs) so it should turn out to be pretty fast.

More official details will be disclosed on Saturday when the successor of the A110-50 concept will be unveiled at Le Mans.

Celebrates Alpine's 60th anniversary
Renault has staged the world premiere of the Alpine Celebration concept today at Le Mans.

As the name suggest, it celebrates the 60thanniversary of the Alpine and serves as a sneak preview of next year's road-going sports car. The design represents a throwback to the classic A110 Berlinetta but with a modern twist and comes with a familiar double headlight arrangement along with a sloped roofline creating a curvaceous silhouette.

The concept is actually a successor to the 2012 A110-50 concept and has an alloy wheel design reminiscent of the A110 and A310 of the 70s while behind the retro-flavored rims are beefy brakes with orange calipers. Moving at the back, there is a fixed wing and a dual exhaust setup flanking a prominent diffuser which incorporates an F1-like brake light.

It wears the well-known blue & orange body paint scheme and adopts a mid-engined layout, but unfortunately Renault isn't saying a word about what powers the concept. It likely has a 1.6-liter turbo from the Clio RS or a beefier 2.0-liter turbo from the Megane RS paired probably to a dual-clutch gearbox, but hopefully the production car will offer a manual transmission.

Tentatively called AS1 (Alpine Sport 1), the production version is expected to tip the scales at around 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs) and will obviously adopt a rear-wheel drive layout. It will be shown at a major event next year, possibly in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
