Re: 3-series Coupe and CC - info from scott26

Unless they tricked us by using different tach's, that's a pretrol turbo alright. A diesel cannot rev up to 7000 rpm. That's how we knew they were testing it. Whether or not it came to production, that was a guess.

Someone dare to guess more than me?

Presenting "performance without penalty": a 335i with N54 I6 3.0L two-stage turbo with 326 HP, 400 Nm, 0-100kmh in 5,6 sec

I'm going to go with 332HP, 420 Nm, 5.5 seconds :D

Tine are we soure its the Coupe and not just the engine?

it says 335i. Isnt the Coupé called 335Ci?

It's a typing error. Yes there is a "C" missing. 335Ci should be correct.

My friend - journalist, declined to tell me any details (he knows I'm going to pass the info on :D ), but he promissed to give me performance data and some engine spec. a day or two before official press release.

So, from Saturday on expect the exclusive info - unless some other leak / embargo brake occures even earlier. In that case we will have the info even sooner. :D

Looking forward to that. Hopefully my internetconncection works this weekend :D

That turbo engine should develop more torque than the current M5. Just like the Diesel version.

Just because you're bolting a turbo to a petrol engine, doesn't mean that you will achieve similar or equal torque figures from the same displacement.

It's in much the same way (though for very different reasons) that we can't expect a diesel engine to produce as much power as a petrol or spark ignition engine.

The ignition of diesel results in a higher energy yield than petrol, in other words you get a more energetic bang in the diesel ignition process than in a petrol powered engine of similar bore and stroke.

So, greater energy yield pushes the piston down with more force and - hey presto - greater torque.

Of course, any tuner worth his oats will be able to tune the dickens out of this 3 litre twin turbo mill - by turning up the boost - to achieve easily 600 Nm but that's not feasible or sustainable from a long-term reliability point of view.

My view is that the new turbo engine will push out no more than 425 Nm so as not to encroach on the forthcoming M3's outputs. I stand to be corrected of course and wouldn't bat an eyelid at even 450 Nm. But 560 Nm? Never.

What do you mean "No"?
This is only a 3 liter petrol engine. As Martinbo pointed out, it will not have over 500 Nm due to reliability reasons.

The Benz C32 has 450Nm. I don't expect BMW to go up that high because it'll be competing with cars like the M3.

Again, this cannot be compared to the 3.5l Diesel engine.

LoL I have written this info about the turboengine on a swedish board and they dont belive me it will happen.
I hope Tines info is correct and oh man im going to tease them for it so for Gods sake, lets hope the turbo engine become officiell soon.

:t-cheers:

Just to be pedantic, warot ;), but the 535d engine is also a 3.0 litre diesel but with twin sequential turbo charging. The x35d nomenclature is misleading.

Those pics can only show the turbo, not the M3. It must be remembered that the M3 again has power bulges in the hood to accomdate the larger engine.

I have feeling Tine is on track w/ the release date, and it goes w/ out saying that I am sure there will be some sort of a leak on this car... especially w/ as much anticipation has been built around it by us and others of the like.

GOod call Martin... that totally slipped. Not a good thing when you've worked for BMW before. :usa7uh:

So we can expect the release on Monday or so. I am so excited about this car.
P.S. Are they showing both the Coupe and the CC?

Good q, as I have heard the CC to be making an appearence in Geneva as well... but I don't think so... I'm guessing something closer to the date of the Geneva show, as this will be a very special model for BMW.

the Turbo will have something like 385 hp and will hit 60mph in about 5.2 seconds. (lets remember that this car is going to be built for the purpose of being better than the S4 so I may still be underestimating it.)

I have the impression this car will go against IS350. Afterall IS350 has more than 300 hp.
