Interesting, I would never have related this to the Opala but that's how our markets are and from there to the Holden lol.
In any case, great cars with matching engines, I loved seeing that one and you can see that they are cared for and appreciated.
The decision to bring back the Opala's 4.1 and adapt it with electronic fuel injection was made because the Opel 3.0 engine had been phased out in Europe in 1994 and importing the Ecotec V6 engines was deemed too expensive. GM's Latin American line-up have always been a mix of European, American and Asian designs. The Commodore was the only Holden that made it to Latin America and it was sold as a Chevy with an Opel name. It was nicknamed in Brazil as the "Aussie Omega".
Late models based on the VE Commodore were sold from 2011 to 2012 with the rather pretentious name of "Chevrolet Omega Fittipaldi" and they even hired Emerson Fittipaldi to be the "ambassador" for it.
