R170 Facelift?

What are the differences between pre-facelift R170 and facelifted R170? How do spot the difference and when was the FL introduced? I might be going to Germany to look for one of these. Also, what problems should I be looking for in this car?

The facelifted version looks (in my opinion) better, then the pre-facelift version (Facelift version has painted "car body", turn signal in the door mirror, covert keyhole for the trunk)

The standard engine on the SLK 200 got a supercharger with the facelift and also the interior got a lot of changes...(new steering wheels, aluminium in the center console, new and more comfortable seats) I think, you can really see, that the facelift interior is more high-grade...

This is the interior of our old SLK 320 (we got it in August 2000 (it was a facelift version of course, because you didn't get this engine before February 2000))!








And also the crash result was better. The seating surface of the pre-facelift version rip out of the anchorage.

the easiest way to spot the FL is the LED indicator lights on the side mirror housing. The R170 are pretty solid and the folding metal roof are very durable and reliable. Cars around the age of the R170 will have their usual problems such as minor electronic glitches, cracked leather trim, worn brakes, some of the seals and gaskets might be leaking as well. The 5 speed auto box can leak transmission fluid onto the computer control.

Other than those problems the car will last for many years to come.
