I don`t know about shallow but I believe a compact performance should have the best (or a balance) of both demons.

Driving Impression and dynamics
A Sexy attractive appearence because this is the very first impression your eyes are going to fall opon.

The Audi RS4 and Mercedes-Benz C63 has this balance of driving dynamics
and attractive looks. The M3 fails in the looks department but excells in dynamics so in the end it`s just balanced in a different way.

dont forget to add IMO. ;) I dont feel the same as you. Too Me M3 is the best balanced car with all that includes (until I've been proven wrong after my C63 testdrive). M3 got the look, speed, balance, handling and comfort. If you believe in majority of the carreviews they think M3 is the most complete package. Now M3 doenst only handles well now the comfort is better than C63 which often get negative critics for having the stiffest suspension. Probably the first time in history this have happen that a M is a more comfortable ride than a AMG(?).

The reason why most people here talks about design is due of lack of experince not having driven the cars they are talking about and its also easy to talk about design. You dont need experience in that area. I mean how many here has driven RS4, M3 V8 and C63?
People can judge a car based on looks alone if they want to but if they start talking how a car is to drive without driven one, then they are on dangerous water

Good points JM but I wouldnt call it dangerous. (I have to get back to work)
I don`t believe these cars are a 0.5th better than each other in the dynamics department. All are very good and deserve credit.

Anyway I can`t wait for your date with the C63. It should be a read!

did you read my E63 review?

Ps its not wheather one car is 0.5th or 2 times better. There are no such formulas. It's better , thats the only thing that matters or need to be known.

Oh there is such a formula JM. It`s called 1st place, 2nd place or 3rd Place.:D

I like to look at the overall package though, beauty should be included..;)

Oh and yes, I did read your review of the E63, I was pleased...

To me, both the C63 (too after market) and the RS4 (dated) fails in the looks department. Both of them are also a few steps behind in the driving department.

Regarding the looks the M3 has to be a E92 (the way a M3 was intended).

Well sorry mate but the C63 is far from looking aftermarket,if u wanna see aftermarket Cs then see BRABUS,Lorinser and Carlsson ones. The C63 definitely looks much DTM than aftermarket:usa7uh:

Haha, both funny and very entertaining this thread!

?????
But what to chose

RS4 - Cause it's a 100% normal car in terms of looks and preformance ( I mean in this comparison it's just a "normal" car, nothing special. Just Marvellous built)
C63 - Looks fantastic and it's probably fun to drive
M3 - Never was a fan of the new 3'r and people are saying the old M was better, why do bother about this then ?
IS-F - To me it looks like 1 big rice!

Also I've only co-piloted the RS4 but it was amazing!
and last I can't really forget when TopGear did their test of the car in the alps. Probably one of the greates engines ever built...
After my ride I could not disagree...
So Audi RS4 get's my vote

DTM stuff on a street car is what I would call the "after market" look.
