More than 200 cars, mostly luxury models, have been burned in Berlin by protestors supporting leftist organisations in the German capital over the past year. The protestors would target brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, but a number of Volkswagen cars have also been attacked.

The protestors would mostly attack on the weekends and would even leave a note of a claim of responsibility, with most of the angst coming from ongoing urban redevelopment and gentrification.

The areas where the cars were attacked were formerly mostly blue-collar but have seen increasing gentrification and big rent increases over recent years.

Surprisingly, this is not the first time such incidents have been taking place in Berlin. Last year a total of 73 cars were burned, and a similar practice has been taking place in Last as well.

It really is a problem here at the moment. Same for Hamburg, where some Police cars were burnt etc…

Here, there are two types of car burners.

1. Leftwing extremists

2. Young people in low class suburbs

The ones in group 1 usually burn SUV:s and expensive cars as they are owned by rich people. The second group burns everything in their way. Usually in their own neigbourhood. Sometimes group 1 and group 2 work together where the goal differs but the means seem to be the same. The people from group 2 just wants to burn things and create some kind of mayhem. Members from group 1 are there to get to throw stones and shoot fireworks at ambulances, firetrucks and police vehicles.

It is a very difficult situation as many of the perps are very young and will not get punished if caught and the police have orders not to react too hard as such tings (as policemen) are very provocative to both groups and could create even more riots.

One of those cars in the photo was a simple Mitsubishi Lancer - probably the car of a blue-collar worker.

So what the f___ are these stupid protesters really doing!? :t-crazy2:

This is what I was talking about. Leftwingers attack rich people while segregated, poor suburbians burn everything in their way.

Whoever buys a... let's say... 7-Series E32 these days, is not exactly a white-collar worker like the first owner was.

Is this really a social problem associated with resentfulness or is this just some people who like to set fire to things? -- I had a high school friend from a 'good family' who enjoyed vandalizing expensive cars.

It's a social problem here.

Most people who own such things have worked hard for them ...but even if that is not the case, I do not understand why some people harbour so much resentment ...and want to damage or destroy something that gives someone else so much pleasure.

I have noticed a growing resentment towards wealthy people since the global economic crisis. Many left-wingers were jubilant at the thought that Capitalism had collapsed ...believing it would usher in a new Socialist "Utopia". They were wrong ...and annoyed about it.
