M5 Powertrain Performance graph - M5

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M
All cars been tested the same way and under the same conditions. So far I havent found any car with more power than the factory claim.

Corvette C6: -10% / -11%
CLS55: -5% / -8%
Boxster S 3.2 -05: -9% / -7%
Golf R32 -05: -10% / -8%

Seriously tuning: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI -00: 529hp, 570Nm :D

From Rototestinstitute:

Powertrain Performance definition Rototest Research Institute defines Powertrain Performance™ as the engine performance reduced by the losses through the drivetrain (transmission, differential, joints, etc). Simplified - Powertrain Performance is the performance available to the wheels.

The specs all car manufacturers give are engine performance specs, not powertrain performnce ones!

On the way from the engine to the wheels some power/torque losses occure, so it's natural performance spec are lower when measured at the wheels.

Thank you Tine!

Whats good with this page is that there are more cars and they are all tested the same way and under same conditions. So start comparing :D

these are few examples

Corvette C6: -10% / -11%
CLS55: -5% / -8%
Boxster S 3.2 -05: -9% / -7%
Golf R32 -05: -10% / -8%

I remember reading an article interviewing Dinan, the BMW tuner, and he talked about how hard it is to replicate the same HP numbers manufacturers get because of how controlled manufacturers' test environments are, including cooling, humidity, temperature, altitude, and the list goes on.

That's at the wheels though - of course you're going to get a loss.

That's right. Manufacturers measure the engine's power at the workbench while car magazines measure the power from the wheels.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
