The Porsche Carrera GT (Project Code 980) is a mid-engine sports car that was manufactured by Porsche from 2003 to 2006.
Well, that result just added 10% to CGT resale values. Yes, the tyre tech advances are remarkable but take nothing away - that’s an incredible lap by the CGT and Bergmeister. 7:12 out of a six speed manual with “only” 450 kW and less than 600 Nm - Legendary!

That driver skill as well… damn that’s helmsmanship of the highest order. Great to see it make 300 km/h at the end of the long straight.
#normally aspirated V10 forever

I just watched the lap and am thoroughly convinced they can be faster with the exact same car. The driver made a few small errors and could be faster overall.
Wish they took the time and let other drivers have their try too.

Either way, it's sensational and I am very happy the GCT is back in the spotlight for a while again.

Given the well-documented spiky-ness of the CGT's handling, I'm going to doff the hat to Bergmeister for not invoking the armco barrier surcharge. Sure, it's not a perfect lap, but in this car, probably wouldn't be for any driver.

Definitely agree and I don't want to to sound like he sucks or anything. But maybe they should have given him a few more laps to try? I feel more can be had.

I think there's a balance to how much punishment around the 'Ring you can dish a production car to the point that you start risking mechanicals.

Also looks like they didn't add a roll cage or racing seats like they do with newer cars when going for a timed lap. So you can't blame the driver for leaving a bigger margin.

They did put racing seat in.

Makes me wonder how much faster it’s contemporaries (Enzo and SLR) would be around the Ring with new Michelins as well. All 3 have aged so well.
