Porsche 959 - Twenty-four hours in sports-car heaven.

Zeperfs lists a Porsche 959 X in their database. Built 1988, 570 PS, supposedly tested by Auto, Motor und Sport for 3,35 seconds 0-100 and 344 kph top speed. Is this a hoax or did such a version really exist ?

Yes I heard about that one. I have only tests of regular 959 and 959S in my magazines.

If there was such a test it must have been made by a non-german AMS magazine.

I have to apologize I totally forgot about 959 X. I put some time ago under the scans section test of 918 Spyder vs Carrera GT vs 959 X. Here is the proof of existence of the 959 X.

From the Motor magazine article it's not clear for which 959 the acceleration values were tested by AMS.

In an Autocar article they drove a privately owned 959 Komfort model from 1988 with a factory 525 hp power upgrade.
The Octane magazine drove a privately owned Komfort version with even 585 hp: "Maclean’s car has had the desirable factory upgrade which includes smaller, more efficient turbos with more vanes, and a re-mapped ECU. It now puts out 585bhp, with torque upped from the standard 369lb ft at 5500rpm."

Considering that 515 PS were enough to reach 339 km/h in AMS test, a 585 hp version could have reached 360 km/h with proper gearing.

That's pretty impressive even now. In fact the 992 Sport Classic manual from memory isn't that much quicker. I'll need to check.
