The Porsche 959 is one of the most iconic models ever manufactured by the German automaker and for the lucky few to own one, Canepa offers a series of tasteful modifications for the supercar.
Dubbed the Porsche 959 “Reimagined” SC, the upgrade package has just been officially introduced after decades of research and development.
So far, Canepa appears to have worked its magic on no less than eight 959s and will limit its “Reimagined” models to just 50 units worldwide. Canepa spends no less than 4,000 hours upgrading every vehicle.
Changes start with the powertrain and includes new BorgWarner turbochargers, Pankl titanium connecting rods, new camshafts, upgraded camshaft housings, low friction bearings, E85 flex-fuel hardware and software, an upgraded high-output alternator, tungsten ceramic coated headers, and more to lift grunt from the standard 444 HP and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) up to an extraordinary 800 HP and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm). The transmission has been fully re-built to support this power.
In addition, Canepa conducts a full restoration of each 959 Reimagined that it builds. The restoration is so comprehensive that every single component from the entire chassis is removed and inspected and if needed, either refinished, rebuilt, or upgraded.
In addition, more than 3,000 individual pieces are stripped and refinished in a variety of coatings such as zinc, anodizing, power coating, and Teflon. Canepa also re-paints each 959, offering owners’ access to Porsche’s Paint to Sample color palette that offers more than 150 finishes. Should the customer choose, an entirely unique color can also be made.
Canepa continues its work in the cabin, spending no less than 400 hours on each interior, finishing parts in new leather and other materials. Porsche’s new Classic Radio Navigation system is featured alongside an upgraded sound system while all interior lights are changed to LEDs. Customers have a huge scope of customization options available.
Comprehensive work has also been done on the 959 suspension that now includes Penske custom valved shocks and titanium springs. Unique 18-inch wheels are also available to customers as are upgraded headlights.

models to just 50 units worldwide
Where do they get 50 if this was a limited series in the 80 ', will there be 50 owners who commission this work?

The colors are very poorly chosen and they do not fit at all except for the white and gray of the photos, there are vintage details that have to be kept such as the wheels (which they did respect) but those colors are not applicable at all

How much is an original 959 worth today?

A lot of the 959's have fairly high mileages for a supercar, from what I understand many are still in daily use, but they are getting old, if owners want to continue using them they will need rebuilding at some point. Porsche built 345 of them I could easily see a lot of them being rebuilt by Canepa, he is the 959 expert.

Frankly, if you own a 959 you can do whatever the f#ck you want. Whether it's tasteful and appropriately reverent is another matter altogether. I'd try and restore mine in keeping with the 80's colour palettes of the time.

It would be much more fun with the uprated brakes and near 800hp of the restomod Canepa car. For the price $2m plus the base car I'd go buy myself a new Ruf CTR!

With that kind of silly money... nah - I'd get the 959, it's a mega 80's Porsche icon. The car that did battle with the mighty F40! That's a pretty storied collectible right there.
