With fluids the Carrera GT's weight was 1470 kg.
Less than 1700 kgs is acceptable knowing the high-tech of the 918. It will be just as awesome as the CGT - with even better performance.

(Dynamic Chassis Control, PDK, Torque Vectoring, etc., etc. )

This is Porsche, so I'm sure it wont be anything less than spectacular. But those numbers we know right now doesnt seem so great COMPARED to the F70 or the new Macca.

I have got an idea to give to them. Why strip from the paint and some bits in the interior? Just strip the car from the hybrid drivetrain and front wheel drive! That will save a lot more than 30kg ;).

^ Stripping hybrid and fwd would make this car a direct 458 Italia/Spider rival, just even lighter. Just what Porsche needs.

Maybe it will be a bit like the E92 M3 GTS vs E46 M3 CSL... The GTS is superior in pretty much every way, but buecause it's so much more heavy, it's considered less fun and pure to drive by many..

And that reminds me of this vid:

Dude what 458 are you talking about, the 918 is pushing more than 800 HP!!! it is a monster !

^ nah don't worry i just realized that if you strip the 918 from the hybrid drivetrain, the HP figure will fall to around 600 :)

2014 Porsche 918 spyder caught at the ring
Dressed up in Martini Racing Livery and looking the part, fully.

Porsches new halo car, the 918 Spyder has been spotted again testing by our trusty Teamspeed spies in Germany at the famous Nürburgring, this time dressed up in a stunning Martini liveried white suit.

The 918 Spyder will be billed mainly as a hybrid, powered by a 4.6 liter V8 with some 570 hp, a rear electric motor with some 120 hp and a front electric motor delivering some 110 hp. That means the 918 Spyder will deliver close to or more than 800 hp.

With a price tag at around $850,000 USD, this will not be a car that you see at every corner, except if your corner is Teamspeed. Porsche states that only 918 example will be built and will go into production at the end of September 2013 as planned, with the first customers receiving their vehicles before the end of 2013.

“What we are doing with the 918 Spyder is redefining driving fun, efficiency and performance,” said Wolfgang Hatz, Member of the Executive Board Research and Development of Porsche AG.

As reported last week, Porsche will be offering a "Race-Track" package for the 918, and while we aren't sure if this is the test mule for that, it sure looks the part. The harder-core "Race Track" package will be an addition charge to the already lofty price of the 918, and come with a stripped-out, club-racer style interior, and get this - the option of no paint, yes you read that right - no paint. Who said less doesn't cost more?

Porsche says the projected weight for the 918 Spyder is less than 1700kg. The weight saving of the track package is said to be around 30kg.

Porsche is figuring about 20 percent of 918 customers are expected to tick this option box. Porsche is still sticking to the total production to consist of only 918 cars which is slated to commence on September 18th, 2013. We can't wait.

Stay tuned for more as testing is clearly underway and heating up.

Does the rear wing work as air-brake like in the MP4-12C ?

The 918 Spyder could be epic with a revised 5.7l V10.

Haven't seen WR behind the wheels for some time :sneaky:

Spied! Walter Rohrl Takes Martini-Painted Porsche’s 918 Spyder Prototype For A Spin

The Porsche 918 Spyder is already a legendary car: it’s a car that’ll cost $845,000 and produce a maximum of 770 hp and 552 lb-ft of torque, and potentially be the fastest Porsche road car of all time. But our spy photographers caught a shot of the upcoming supercar lapping the Nurburgring with some pretty serious Porsche history both on its exterior and within its interior.

The car was spotted in a monochromatic version of the famed Martini Racing livery, a black-and-white tribute to the red, white, and blue Martini paintjobs that graced many historic Porsche racecars, including the 917. It’s curious to see this, considering that the last 918 we spotted had a black-and-white tribute to the Gulf Racing colors that adorned 917 racers back in the early 1970s. If these varied prototypes are supposed to tell us anything, it’s this: the 918 is a perfect successor to the powerful Porsche race cars that came before it.

But wait, there’s more. Who’s that behind the wheel? It’s none other than Rally Hall of Famer/ Porsche racer and test-driver Walter Rohrl.

Other than a few racing stripes and a famous driver (and some canard spoilers up front), however, the car you see in the photos below is nearly identical to the last prototype we saw, which means a massively powerful 4.6-liter V-8 and double electric motor setup, a 202 mph top speed, and a peak efficiency figure of 78 mpg. It’s currently available for order and will go into production on September 18th (9/18, of course) of next year.
