911 (991) Porsche 911 R unveiled

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car, produced from September 2011 to December 2019. It was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997.
Could it be that the upcoming "unlimited purist 911" is based on the narrow-bodied 991 Carrera (1808mm width versus 1852mm as seen on the 911 R) ?

I think it will just be a wingless GT3. In fact, I read it is just an option package (X90) for the GT3 - Porsche's More Comfortable 911 GT3 Touring Package Possibly Spied

I have a feeling they're doing this because the upcoming 992 is going to be much more digital (in all editions) and larger, which could take away from the "purist" feel. Then there'll be the pairing of Turbos & hybrids.

I'm assuming they'll listen to cunsumer demand from here on out, but it hasn't been confirmed if the 992 GT3 will be NA.

Dealer in Australia asking for $875k AUD before tax for this one with 1300km on the clock. I think the owner might have missed the golden time to sell the car.

Jerry Seinfeld's 911R. Getting that old white New York license plate is the equivalent of getting a #1-5 plate in Dubai... darn near impossible, unless you're Sienfeld.

Also, thank Jerry for helping making the 911R ---> manual GT3.2s happen.

Getting rid of Lady Liberty from NY's last two license plates was a big mistake.

Nobody likes the current one, so much that if you still got the old white and blue, you can keep. I was only 2 months late to get the white and blue one :(

£330,000.
Interesting isn't it? It's kind of ironic that those who missed the allocation for the 911 R (but had the means) were just months away from being able to buy the prettier and just as focused 911 GT3 Touring with a manual transmission.
As a huge appreciator of the brand, I can't help but feel that the 911 R was misstep and missed opportunity for Porsche and, moreover, buyers of the car. To my mind there's simply insufficient differentiation ("specialness") of the 911 R especially in the light of what manifested soon thereafter in the 911 GT3 Touring manual. If I'm not mistaken, 911 GT3s are still available to order. And, 200 K for a properly specced example is a bargain compared to buying a 991.1 R.
All just IMHO of course...

I know old post but just seeing it.
Since, according to Andreas P, this has the engine from the 911R, I'll post it here

Strictly speaking that is not true. 991R has the same engine as the 991.1 RS (which is based on the troublesome 3.8L unit in the 991.1 GT3). While the Speedster has the same engine as 991.2 RS but with also individual throttle bodies (that late 991.2RS in Europe also got and went on to be the basis of 992 GT3/RS engines too).
