911 (991) Porsche 911 (991.2) Facelift - Spy Pics & Info

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car, produced from September 2011 to December 2019. It was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997.

I'm pondering the 91.2, what could be done? I mean, the 97.2 was quite the step-up, and it really took care of most of the awkward features about the 97.1 (I'm looking at you, 996 rear lights). I'm not bothered by much on the 91.1... will it be mostly engines?

The last time I checked on rennteam, 'twas mostly just engines.

Guess who's back

Will be based on upcoming facelifted range
Porsche has announced a GT2 RS version of the 911 is in the works and will be out probably in 2018.

In an interview with Autocar, Andreas Preuninger manager of Porsche High Performance Cars said all GT-badged versions of the upcoming 911 facelift will remain naturally aspirated while the other models will be exclusively offered with a turbocharged engine. More importantly, he said a 911 GT2 RS is coming but we will have to wait a while as Preuninger mentioned it will be out towards the end of the facelift's lifespan so most likely they are targeting a 2018 release.

This announcement comes as a surprise taking into account at the beginning of the month the same man told Car and Driver in Geneva there might not be a 911 GT2 (991 generation) since Porsche believes the 911 GT3 RS is hardcore enough and can fulfill that role.

We remind you the previous 911 GT2 RS (997 generation) was limited to 500 units and packed a mighty 620 HP (462 kW) punch from a 3.6-liter six-cylinder twin-turbo boxer engine in a 1,370 kg (3,020 lbs) package. Porsche said it can do 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and top out at 205 mph (330 km/h).

They flipped the shifting....forward for downshift and back for upshifts like the GT3. Am I missing something else?

Love the steering wheel.

Besides the MASSIVE switch to turbos, the exterior will have updated front/rear bumpers. Most notably it should get thinner front bumper LED like on the new GT4/Spyder, Macan and Panamera. Also likely is a new top tier headlight option. Either 991.2 or 992 (more likely) will have get optional ($$$) 918 style 4-point LED headlight assembly.

Expect thinner LEDs that integrated into the cooling ducts as opposed to flush with the bumper.

918 headlight assembly with 4-point LED for daytime running AND nighttime low and high beam mixed-use. Macan (shown above), Panamera and 911 all have optional headlights with 4-point LEDs but those are daytime running lights only. 919 race car also uses 4-point LED design.

several questions on my mind, how high will it rev? and of course, probably the better question, will there still be a point to take it all the way to redline ? we will find out soon i guess!

No turbocharging for future Porsche 911 GT cars
Next generation of 911 GT cars will be naturally aspirated, unlike the future turbo-only regular line-up

Second-generation Porsche 911 GT cars will continue to use normally aspirated engines

by Andrew Frankel
31 March 2015

The second generation of 991-based Porsche 911 GT cars will continue to use normally aspirated engines, according to Andreas Preuninger, manager of Porsche High Performance Cars.

The issue was not a given because all standard versions of the new model, due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September, will use turbocharged engines.

“GT3s are normally aspirated - period,” said Preuninger. When asked how he’d managed to except his cars from the new general rule of turbo 911s, he said: “When everyone goes in one direction, I like to go in the other direction.”

At present, Preuninger’s GT3s are still the only Porsches where you push the selector to change down a gear.

Preuninger would not be drawn on the details of the new engine, although the 4.0-litre motor unveiled at the Geneva show this month to power the current GT3 RS would clearly provide a solid foundation for a new engine for the Gen 2 GT3.

Preuninger also suggested that Porsche may soon be rethinking its strategy of offering only dual-clutch automatic gearboxes on GT3 models. “We have been talking about it [reintroducing a manual ’box] and I hope I have the ear of the board,” he said.

Preuninger confirmed that a new GT2 RS would be built but said it would not be for the existing series of the 911. Instead, it will come at the end of the life of the Gen 2 car, probably in 2018.

The previous 997-based GT2 RS offered 611bhp in a package weighing just 1370kg and is widely regarded as the most extreme 911 ever to goon general sale.
