French duo PSA Peugeot-Citroen is set to undergo some fairly significant changes under the guidance of new CEO Christian Streiff. One of the major adjustments is the centralization of product development for the two brands, which will supposedly allow for further differentiation, and more importantly, new additions aimed at both budget and premium sectors.
In an interview with Automotive News, vice president Frederic Saint-Geours revealed PSA hopes to cover up to 90% of the market by developing both low-cost vehicles for developing markets as well as new premium models for more established markets.
“We have to develop specific offerings for each market,” Saint-Geours told reporters, explaining that a model developed for Brazil will not be the same as one developed for France or for China. “We are preparing specific models and we are developing new platforms,” revealed the French exec.
One design trait that will feature on more cars is the sliding-door concept that starred on the baby 1007 Peugeot. Saint-Geours commented that are “more models planned with the sliding-door concept.”
The first cars jointed developed under by Peugeot-Citroen will be seen over the next three years. In the meantime we suggest you keep an eye out for any Peugeot and Citroen concept cars, which should provide a preview of what’s going on behind the scenes.
