Peformance Brand For Lexus

It will be a real contender and will most likely be as sporty as the RS4 and M3.

yep i belive so to..

it will be fun to see the comparos between the 3..

while the C63 will sit back and be the most powerfull and classiest choice in the segment.. :D

no beef for us:usa7uh:

I really cannot wait for the IS-F. While I do believe It will reach new boundries for Lexus (in terms of handling, driver involvement and what not) I still have a feeling it will be behind the new M3 on a track.

Should be interesting. I have heard a few rumours latley that Lexus will use the 8-speed gearbox from the LS to chanel the power. I would really hope for a coventional manual, but I highly doubt It'll happen.

what do you mean with the word "sporty", do you mean as in handling or driving involvement or anything else?
I means sporty as in stiff suspension. Lexus in general luxury car brand and produced cars comfortable like Mercs, with the exception of the IS. The new is was devloped to compete against the 3er, period. Although the standard Lexus IS is very comfortable Lexus also offers IS sport for those who like a stiffer suspension.
This makes be beleive that the IS-F won't be compromised for comfort. hopefully Lexus have worked on the steering feel too becasue it is in that department were BMW rule.

I've got to say it again..cannot wait :D

Cool - very nice this Lexus IS. I've just finished a test drive of an IS 250. Terrific quality with a lovely ride - even on SA roads with the 17" wheels. Drawbacks are a wheezy engine above 4500 rpm and strangely inert (read soggy) handling with a stability program that - would you believe it - BEEPS loudly when called into action! Gross man!

The IS-F is really going to have to be a completely different kettle of fish if it's to make any impression on the mighty German triumverate. Time will tell.

I still believe M3 will be still the overall performance King. The rawest performance sedan. But ...

C63 AMG, RS4 & IS-F have bigger displacement engines = more torque, being more civilized.

So, I guess IS-F will be positioned against M3, but still it will steal the most potential sales from AMG & RS. And just like AMG & RS do: stealing those M customers from BMW who want more civilized & day-to-day car.

But still ... M is the most powerful letter in the world. Especially marketing (read: brand cache) wise!

And we know many buy a car due the badge, not performance figures, technical specs, etc.

I am really looking forward to see how this IS F is going to be like, I really like the basic IS, and more power can't be bad!

I don't think this car is going to give the M3 a run, or the RS4 for that matter. It could be a problem for the C63, seeing as that is engineered for comfort, and especially in the US, it would take a load of sales from all of these cars. Also, I think this F brand is going to be similar to the R brand for Jaguar, make the car a little more sporty, but mainly just add more power.

I'm not so sure about the F brand, doesn't seem special, but I'm sure I'll get used to it, I hope they don't do a LS and RX version, or that could ruin it being a performance brand. Also I'm surprised this car isn't going to have a hybrid, like the Lexus supercar, and make it produce power, instead of saving fuel!

Possibly, but I think Lexus will go to further lengths to develop their vehicles than Jaguar.. :t-hands: They're vehicles are already miles ahead of Jaguar when it comes to outright technology and engineering.

Apparently Lexus has gone to Brembo for brakes, so that's the first step to making the IS-F more sporty (and an important feature at that)

I can understand on the RX version, but why would you not want to see a higher performance LS? Just curious.. If they did have an "LS-F" it could battle with S63 AMG.

Although I do have a feeling the LS600h will be the top of the level LS, I think Lexus will probably focus on the GS next time.

I had heard a few rumours that the IS-F will be using the LS600h's 5.0 litre hybrid V8.. Which would make sense with some of the specifications that have been released (4.6, posssibly 5.0 litres), power range from 400 to 420bhp. I'm hoping for a hybrid actually :usa7uh:

From LLN - Same pictures and news as before, but I though I'd post

The Lexus IS-F will make its official debut in just a few days, but some initial low-resolution images have already leaked online. The photos come from a small Web-based advertisement Lexus inadvertently posted on its website. The car is expected to offer between 400 and 420 horsepower via a 5.0-liter V8. The production IS-F sedan that will be displayed at the Detroit auto show will be followed by coupe and convertible variants at a later date. Images after the jump…

From what I read it would use the V8 engine from the LS 600hL, but not the hybrid. Maybe I'm mistaken.
