In Finland, the first of May is celebrated as the beginning of summer. Up here though, we're lucky if it's warmer than +10 and it doesn't rain (or snow...). This year, it was approximately +20 degrees...
One of the traditions around here is the classic cars parade - basically everyone can participate, so it's a mix of 'ordinary' old cars and those a little more special - modified, rare, or simply well-used. Of course, I was there with my camera...
The cars gathered on an island in downtown Oulu. They would then drive through the town.
Maserati Ghibli SS
Opel GT
A very smart Mustang
Cadillac and Volvo P1800
Simca Beaulieu
Tailfins are always in fashion
Datsun 240Z
Lincoln V12
Your guess is as good as mine.
Classic Merc.
Shows you that people have different ideas about what cars are classic.
Steyr Puch 650
This didn't participate in the parade, but I thought I'd take a pic nevertheless.
Umm... I think it says 'Heinkel' on the front door.
I don't think Mercedes ever made this model.
Shows you the difference between what Europeans and Americans consider 'sporty'.
Some of the cars didn't quite dig the stress.
Finally, it was time to go!
Of course, Oulu's finest were there to stop the traffic...
The driver of this DeSoto got left behind... the tractors were a part of the parade as well.
That's it! Hope you enjoyed the pics.
