What is the difference between this and the new regular 4-door Cooper? The tailgate?

M

The size! Clubman is now a C-segment car, 5dr Mini hatch is still a B-segment model. As said in AutoBild's video: the size (incl interior space) of the new Clubman is on par with Audi A3 Sportback.

It like saying what's the difference between 3er and 5er, or 5er and 7er, or X3 and X5 etc. Different segments, ddifferent size.

Spring-loaded barn doors? That's brilliant. With a 6dr clubman and a 5dr Mini on the market I think Countryman will take a hit. The barndoors are way more useful than the minimal offroading capabilities that the Countryman has.
Brilliant until you ding the hood of the car parked behind you accidentally as the owner walks up....

Clearly you are not familiar with Clubman. The previous and new have stabilisers so they can stay open at a certain angle.

It is indeed massive for a Mini. It will be interesting to see whether the design features of a Mini are suited to a large footprint n

Clubman vs Golf

Length: 4,253mm/4,268mm
Width: 1.800mm/1,799mm

The Countryman was already very close to the Golf 6 in dimensions, Golf 7 grew a bit.

Countryman vs Golf 6

Length: 4,110mm/4,199mm
Width: 1,789mm/1,779mm

So we already know the MINI design features don't play well in larger format; I've always said the Countryman was a good car, it was just a shit MINI. If BMW had carried over the Clubman Concept looks unchanged than I would have to take a serious look at it, as released it's a disappointment.

MINI only in the badge.
It's huge.

As said: it's the biggest MINI ever made. :D

It's bigger (longer, wider yet not taller) than Mk1 Countryman.

But when the new Mk2 Countryman comes it will definitely take the "Biggest MINI ever" title from Clubman ... add a few centimeters in length, width and height ... and ta-tada: Countryman - the biggest MINI ever.

One more thing I'd like to point out, is that the front end (bumper mainly) design of the new Clubman really works, unlike that of the 3dr/ 5dr MINI.

Hmmm. It is the concept bar the conceptual detailing.

And it sufferes really badly in comparisson, the concept isn't a way out there concept, it looked production ready, the actual production car is a massive letdown, it just doesn't work like the concept did.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
