911 (991) [Official] Porsche 911 GT2 RS

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car. Predecessor: Porsche 911 (997). Successor: Porsche 911 (992). Production: 2011-2019.
Very late to the party here. Although everyone was expecting the 991.2 GT2 RS to be very fast on the Ring, hearing/seeing that official lap record still impresses me. Again, Porsche does "more with less". As before, Porsche manages to be very fast despite not having as much engine power as the competitors within the same performance envelope. The exception is the Huracan Performante, as it is almost as fast with even less HP than the GT2 RS, and it is cheaper than the GT2 RS too!!

Of course, I'm also biased......as a 991 owner, the GT2 RS sure makes me feel GOOD about the brand, acting as an awesome halo car. Somehow, the 991.2 GT2 RS is a better halo car than the 918 or Carrera GT were for me. It's probably because the GT2 RS is "just a 911"........

It mentions in the press release this is a new record for a road based car but what about the time set by the Neo EP9 of 6:45,90 isn't this the official record?
The EP9 wasn't road-legal during its Nurburgring lap (not even NIO claimed this), racing slicks used on all their record claims do make a big difference, I doubt they'd be able to get a time below 7 minutes in road legal state.

Saw the new GT2 RS at the one year anniversary of the LA Porsche Experience Center last weekend. It was hard to take a good photo of the RS in the morning light. The RS looks huge in person.

Slightly off topic, but thought I would share some pics from the event. Of note, this location houses Porsche Motorsport North America, which is Porsche's only motorsport facility outside of Weissach. They have a dyno room attached and can service current or historic motorsport cars. The cars on hand are pretty ridiculous.

What a result for the Huracan as well. I can't wait for the supertests of those two...records will fall.

Wow check out the top speed indicated 356km/h and brutal acceleration to match
