911 (991) [Official] Porsche 911 (991)

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car, produced from September 2011 to December 2019. It was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997.
I kinda can't believe how much I'm in love with the design of this thing.. It's a Porsche for God's sake!

Any more pics of the two next to each other? The 991 looks great, but the 997 holds its own, and I don't think looks dated nor diminished next to the new body.

Ah, yes that's true. The regular Carrera has the aggressive presence of an older Turbo now (it's even got wider hips, shockingly).

Damn, I've got Porsche fever in a major way now.

For the first time in my life (honestly) I am obsessed with a Porsche 911, this the new 991. I feel the need to have one just the same way a brave soldier deprived from good sex for 24 months needs his 'fix';):D

^ honestly I find myself in similar place Human. I was always a 911 fan but didn't have the itch to own one .. first time ever with the 991

I'm even looking at 996 Turbo's for Sale right now. I have the Porsche itch and it needs to be scratched!

I'm so looking forward to the Cabrio with a hardtop. It will be the first death kneel for the Mercedes SL.

Yeah right. The SL will be around just like it has always been and it will be new also.

The SL will be around, but for the past 15 years of so it's been unrivalled in versatility. Beside the failed Cadillac attempt at giving the SL a jab, it has simply not had a rival luxury car in the same price range that offer all year around usability.

Porsche did a brilliant job increasing the appeal of the 997 with a PDK introduction. I've seen quite a few number of women driving the 997.2, more than I've seen driving previous 911 models. The hardtop roof will make the argument for the 911 even better, both for husband and wife. It has emergency back seats for squeezing in kids and is faster and more agile than the SL. And in four wheel drive configuration will be icing on the cake for customers in regions where snow falls during winter. The SL won't be very new, just refreshed looks, same roof as the outgoing model and incremental improvements in dynamics. Another words it won't reach new customer bases.

I'm not saying it will be the end of the SL but sales will take a hit, very much how like how the Cayenne has won over thousands of potential ML customers and the Panamera has attracted S-Class customers.

Porsche are on a march to further erode BMW, Mercedes and Audi sales.

The SL is such an icon, such a distinct statement that true buyers of the SL will barely give the 911 Cabrio a second glance. Especially after driving the two. The SL has nothing to fear from the 911 and vice versa.

^yep hands down this new 911 is amazing..but its still a 911.. it looks like a 911 and probably drives like a 911.. its not for everyone..

Especially not for cruise oriented customers like the SL ..

Most folks cant differentiate the last 3 generations of 911 from each other if they had the whole day to do it;)

Saying all that..
I want this car bad :D ( like everyone else it seems)

Those words are the exact ones dissenters uttered about the Panamera saying that it is too ugly, won't be comfortable as an S-Class. 20,000 units later Mercedes are most likely not too happy about Porsche pocketing that volume of customers who would other wise have bought the iconic S-Class instead.

Complacency is a horrible disease.

You have no proof Luw of how many of those 20000 Panamera buyers defected from owning - or wanting to own - an S-Class. Besides, barring what you perceive on the streets of London, there are very few Mercedes Benzes that compete at a psychological, emotional, engagement and dynamic appeal level of the various Porsche models. On paper comparisons are one thing but the essence of such things is an altogether more powerful differentiator. Porsche knows this, Mercedes Benz does too and cross shopping between the two will be nothing more than one-for-one and incidental.

That year round angle is pretty much a marketing angle, no car that low to the ground wearing summer tires is good in winter, hard top or not. In the real world SL buyers have another car for winter or the use snows, that can be used on any other car. As far as the competition there is so much of it already from BMW (new 6), Aston-Martin, Maserati, Jaguar and Porsche already. A hardtop doesn't automatically equal year round use, if it snows.

When the new SL debuts the car will sell out just like it always does, hardtop 911 or not. Doesn't matter. There are enough buyers to go around, just because the 911 gets a hardtop or some hybrid thereof doesn't mean the end of the road for the SL. SL sales won't even blink when the new one debuts, buyers of SLs are already getting qued up at my dealer now...just as I'm sure they are at the Porsche dealership. Its hype about the demise of this car because of that car.

The Cayenne and Panamera took buyers from everyone, not just Mercedes. Yet, Mercedes has no trouble selling the ML or the S-Class, even as the S class ages. S550s move in and out all day long. Demise = hype.
