911 (991) [Official] Porsche 911 (991) facelift

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car, produced from September 2011 to December 2019. It was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997.
There shouldn't be a cup holder in a 911.

That's a bit extreme. How should a 911 be driven? Purists/snobs say you should concentrate on driving and not worry about drinking/eating/texting/listening to music in the car. Enjoy the drive, and that's all!

Well, for long commutes to and from the track, I do enjoy having a drink that's available for me to sip/drink while I'm cruising on the highway in the summer season. That's really the only time I've ever used the cup holders in my 911......and I'm glad they are there when I want them to be.

The only desireable Porsche.

For me, the 911 is the most desirable car. PERIOD. But that's just me.

But I also have an affinity for the Cayman. And the Panamera IIs' interior/dash is simply grand. It's exterior, as with most cars, is highly configuration sensitive. The Sport Turismo lesser so than the sedan methinks.

Did you actually read the last paragraph? A question was posed and he answered it at the end with "I conclude that not only is the 911 still relevant, it's important too"..."long may it remain that way".

I don't think for one second he doesn't know where the cup holders are. Andrew Frankel is one of the longest serving car journalists out there, and quite respected by his peers too (although I've heard some people say he's a bit arrogant).

What has clearly happened is that he has filed his copy remotely, and the work experience guy or girl has illustrated the text with various photos, and it is THEY who have guessed where the cup holders are. Poor from the magazine, sure, but I don't think ANY of the car reviewers have anything to do with the layout of the magazine at all. That's the job of different people entirely. They may hardly even meet each other.

Don't mean to make a mountain of a cup holder, but... his name is on the article, so I think it is fair to criticize him for any glaring mistake.

And if as you say Frankel is criticizing the actual cup holder when he says "These inadequate holders mean I must....", I wonder what he finds so inadequate about the actual cup holder? I only had to use it couple of times, but they work well and I didn't find anything i"inadequate" about it.

and I'm glad they are there when I want them to be.

Indeed, and I like that they are so well hidden and out of the way and yet very functional when you need them. Will be sad to see them replaced in 992 (if spyshots is indeed accurate)

That's a fair point, and if I was him I'd be pretty pissed off that such glaring mistakes had appeared in something with my name on it. Maybe he should have checked? Maybe he did and has already complained to the graphic designers or whoever is responsible for the layout of the magazine.

But that doesn't change the fact he very likely knows where the cup holders are on the 911.

He's on Twitter, I believe, so I may even get in touch with him. I saw him in the lounge at London Heathrow on the way to Geneva a couple of years ago. Very tall.

I assume the cup he uses doesn't fit. Not a big deal, I agree, and hardly worth mentioning from his point of view.

I must say that my favourite 911 of this generation has to be the 911 Targa GTS.
It’s so damn sweet, the hips on it, the clean design.. and the balance of performance. Man O man I want one.

Clearly the speedster is running the Gt3 style exhaust implying a naturally aspirated engine. The 991.2 series is going out in style. I suspect all allocations are already spoken for.

We are starting to see these type of behaviors in Sydney as well.

Same thing at universities in the NYC area; they're a distinctly entitled bunch. I wonder how many have diplomatic ammunity through family political association.
