P1 [Official] McLaren P1 Supercar

The McLaren P1 (codenamed P12) is a flagship sports car produced by McLaren Automotive. It is the second installment in McLaren's Ultimate Series after the McLaren F1. Considered to be the spiritual successor to the F1, the P1 was one of the first high performance sports cars to be introduced incorporating hybrid technology; the Porsche 918 Spyder having begun taking orders prior to the P1 and the LaFerrari introduced alongside it.
"The most distinguishing feature, however, is the large retractable rear spoiler seen in the patent sketch. This adjustable wing will likely serve as an air brake once the car’s driver mashes the brake pedal at high speeds. "

The concept pictures show that it has a retractable spoiler, so I don't know what they're talking about.

Looks like a TVR? Anyone?

I am a design guru, so have have a very close approach.

I don't even understand what you're saying....but since when are you a design guru? LOL!

Anyways, this car looks like a bad joke next to the 918....

Sorry guys, but this car fails to excite me emotionally. Not even close to the feelings generated by a 599 or even a simple 911!

It's as it was designed by a robot, not a human being...

I'm sorry, but I agree with Giannis. Perhaps there is a technical beauty here I just cannot see.

The more I see it, the more I like the details. I misspoke earlier in saying it looks like a Koenigsegg. But I'm still not lusting after it.

Alot has to do with the purported carried-over powertrain from the MP4-12C. I'm sure it will drive and handle well. Very well, in fact, but what will differentiate its character from its lesser brethren? To me, when you're in this strata, it needs to fulfill the visual, visceral, and aural requirements in a uniquely presented package. If this sucker had a V10 (or V12), then I'd be sporting the equivalent of automotive wood for it but currently I'm not.

The other thing this has working against it is that it extremely uneviable task of being the spiritual successor to the legendary F1. The expectations are set almost unrealistically high for this car. Even the slightest slip, it'll probably be considered a disappointment. But one must also consider the circumstance the F1 was developed....Gordon Murray, et al. had pretty much free reign to do what they liked and pick and choose from components that existed or were custom built. Now that McLaren is a full-fledged yet, in some ways, a fledgling automotive company, they are somewhat limited at what they have at their disposal in order to get the bean-counters' approval to get this project going in a fiscally responsible manner.

But this is all conjecture, I'll wait for further announcements and make a more informed judgment from my armchair. :D

Does it have gullwing doors? Or I need to sleep?

Also, I see some reminiscence from the SSC Aero in the front. Or again, am too tired and imagining stuff.

I like it a lot, is "futuristic" looking and very extreme, like a proper hypercar.

I'm sorry, I missed Monster's lates pic where is quite obvious. The first of Omoderncultureo made me think different, a first.

So, going to sleep then :P

Regards!

Well, most probably Mr. Wind Tunnel held the most sway in the design :). Do I love it like the 90s/00s super cars like McLaren F1 or Zonda, no. But at the same time I doubt we will see simplistic designs like that again. For what it is, an ulta modern hyper car, I love it. If Aventador looks like a stealth aircraft, this looks like an alien spacecraft. The tho things I am not gaga over are the headlights and the flaming orange and black paint scheme. The latter is easily remedied -

As for the former, I do not know why they felt they had to do something as superficial and silly as make the headlights look like their logo. Pagani does this crap too by sprinkling their oval shape all over the place.... Funny thing, I find the "emotional" Ferrari the one that plays the least heed to such silly sentiments and follows a more strict functional diet.

ps. Love the way the massive wing fits in so unobtrusively into the body.

Properly alien and interesting to look at. Outlandish/ostentatious for sure, but definitely something to talk about.

Ok, it's heavily influenced by the wind tunnel. Isn't the F12, too? And it's a much more lovable design, at least to me.

And since you mentioned the Aventador, yes it's like an aircraft. It looks alien. Many people like it. I prefer to like cars that look like, well, cars... :D :D

The F12 is clearly influenced by the wind tunnel but not to the same extreme as this P1. Lets see what Ferrari can come up with for the Enzo replacement.

No one feeling the love for this:

???

Sheesh - tough crowd these days. I for one love the aerodynamically-influenced styling like how the front bumper is sculpted to channel air through the front wings (presumably to help cool brakes too).
As for the McLaren motif headlights - lekker! - good for them, they've got their own thing going on after all the criticism of the generic, paint-by-numbers, supercar-design-101 MP4-12C.

It's down to Enzo vs. P1 vs. 918 Spyder now. The forthcoming battle of the hyperbrids. [Let the record reflect that I'm the first to coin this term for hybrid hypercars - right behind you LJK... :woot: ]

Others will be left behind.

Knock knock...
Who's there?
Huayra...
Huayra who?
Huayra yo face look so ugly!?

Huayra is not the prettiest car, but a zillion times better than the front of this new McLaren, which is absolutely disgusting!!!

Anyways, Huayra or McLaren, it doesn't matter. Ferrari will destroy them both in looks and performance. I cannot wait!
Oh, and the 918 says hi too!
