Feck, epic. The McLaren PR machine is doing a good job. Odd - quite a bit of effort considering that the P1 is "practically sold out"?

What iswrong with that? At least they give fans a possibility of having some nice HighRes pics. Try frinding a good desktop backgroud of a Ferrari?

You can bet that they will. When I saw the 918's record lap around the ring I was gob smacked to see the driving racing the car in auto mode. It became clear to me that this generation of hypercars are driven by computers.

We are going to see one hell of a development race between Ferrari, Mclaren and Porsche and they, over the next years, will support their cars with software updates that will extract more performance from the suspension, engine, electrical steering etc.

When I saw the 918's record lap around the ring I was gob smacked to see the driving racing the car in auto mode.

The PDK Porsches (and probably other DCT cars) are faster in when the PDK is left to it's own devices without pesky humans telling it what to do. The paddles are there just to give people the warm fuzzy feeling they are not driving an auto.

I think the car's software was optimized for the lap record run. This way, the driver could concentrate on placing the car on the track and not worry about being in the wrong gear at any point of the track. F1 used to be like that when automatic gear changes were legal.

I was told that they went under 7 minutes and James Glickenhaus was told by McLaren at Pebble Beach that they beat his time (6:51). That was a month after they went to the 'Ring in July, but they went back in August to shoot a promo. Hopefully we will hear something from them soon!

I have a feeling that it will be the slowest one by quite a margin (considering that the 918 can still do a better lap time).
