720S [Official] McLaren 720S

The McLaren 720S is a sports car designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive. It is the second all-new car in the McLaren Super Series, replacing the 650S beginning in May 2017. The 720S is built on a modified carbon monocoque, which is lighter and stiffer than the previous model, the 650S.
Even in this cold, wet weather?

Couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Another one bites the dust @17:00 :

Still no airbags deployment, just the passenger side.

The problem with the super fast supercars of today is that there are waaaayyy too many incompetent drivers with money.

Disclaimer: Drove it for about 20 miles on the back roads of Greenwich, Connecticut in wet conditions with a sales associate friend sitting passenger. No highway driving.

Overall - Learning from trial-and-error of past models, McLaren has created, pound-for-pound, the best modern supercar.

Exterior -
  • I think it’s the best looking supercar on sale, under a million.
  • It’s one of those cars where you discover new design aspects everyday. Robert Melville and his team did an amazing job.
Interior -
  • A rolling goldfish bowl with how airy it is. Really a fascinating experience. Visibity doesn't get any better.
  • Quality is a quantum leap from the 650, and 12c especially.
  • Instrument cluster is so unecessary, yet so cool.
  • Standard seats are much bettter than the standard seats found in the 488 & Huracan.
  • Leather work could be better; visible creases on a relatively new car.
  • I still do not like McLaren's portrait infotaiment screen. Landscape feels more natural.
  • Steering wheel is slightly off center from seating position. Kind of bothers me, though I’ve gotten used to the off center driving position of the current S-class.
  • The Bowers & Wilkins stereo really impresses. I have B&W at home, so not I’m surprised.
  • Also, I like the speaker grilles. A big step up from previous. Love B&W's trademark kevlar-coated speakers.
Performance - Time-warping speed - even in wet conditions.
  • Lotus Elise on steroids is what it feels like.
  • The grip is just insane, feels like an AWD car most of the time.
  • Press the accelerator and it just goes - near imperceptible turbo lag, no wheel spin.
  • The steering is well weighted and reactive. It's quick to respond, but not Ferrari quick (which is good). Gives the driver confidence in what the car is doing.
  • Ride quality in comfort mode rivals mid-sized luxury cars.
  • It’s mind-boggling how a car can have so much grip, be incredibly fast, yet ride so well. Haven't experienced a car like this before.
  • Did I mention it’s fast?
Noise -
  • A weak point for McLaren still, but not as bad as before. Even with sports exhaust, the sound isn’t that exciting until you hit 5k rpm, aka loose your license speeds.
A bit hard to see from photos, but I tried to caputure the slightly off-center driving postion.

Leather creasing a bit on the center console. More visible on light colored interiors.

Thanks very much for the write-up @sako97 - McLaren has a winner here, of that I'm pretty certain. Would give my eye teeth to drive one.

Lovely - the contrast of the cobalt blue and black works nicely.

Slightly misleading because the fastest is actually 9.73@147. There is also an unrecorded claim to a 9.69.

To be able to reel a Ferrari in like that is insane. Serious question for the board: What current production car is faster than the 720S? I seriously can't think of one. The Aventador SVJ, 488 Pista have got to be unearthly to outrun the 720S. Porsche needs a regular production mid-engine car above the 911.

I can't either :)
What about the 812 Superfast? Shouldn't it be closer to 720s acceleration territory?

Apart from hypercars like Chiron and Regera there aren't any acceleration wise. SVJ will probably do 7.9 to 200 at best. Same with 488 Pista, Ferrari claimed numbers as of late are a load of BS.

Top speed wise however there are higher end supercars like Aventador S/SV/SVJ 350/353/360 (?) km/h and 812SF, maybe even Noble M600 if it is still in production. GT2 RS, Pista and 720S have basically the same top speed at 340 something right?

Yeah, top speeds are usually limited electronically because nobody wants to waste time developing tyres that are safe at higher speeds only to find they're slower on track. I think any faster than you can reach on Dottinger Hohe is a waste.:D

Regarding 488 Pista, we will see, from the first speedo vids, it looked very fast, like 0-200 km/h in 7,5s, which is quite close to 720S (7,2s).

7.1s in Auto Zeitung.
AutoZeitung - McLaren 720S

Ferrari did claim 0-300kph in 15.0s for the LaFerrari though... and 1360kg kerb weight. Both of which were somewhat optimistic.:ROFLMAO:
