Sounds similar to the M3 F80, like a 90° V6. Could the F-Type also going to get a 90° V6, so a new V6 based on the 5.0l V8?
It is said to get two engine versions, a NA V6 making + 250 PS, and an R version supercharged V6 making close to 400 PS. I am gong to like the Cayman, but for me the Jaguar has a more appealing layout: FMR. I love every car that has such layout. I hope a coupé will follow soon.

Thanks for the flash back. I remember that chop and loved it but today in 2012, an era during which Jaguar has moved away from "heritage" designs, the design of that car is ill-fit for out times.

The purpose of the F-Type is to widen Jaguar's appeal to new audiences that don't fall into the category of 50-60 year old Jaguar enthusiast of financial analysts working for Morgan Stanley. Jaguar F-Type needs to be vibrant, a breath of fresh air and a spirited car that could deter M3, RS5, Cayman S, X6 and Range Rover Sport buyers in the market for a car that marks their personal success.

As nice as it may be I'm just not moved by this at all. Jaguar needs to focus on technology and quality and a smaller sedan to compete in the heart of the market.

I disagree. They need more sport-oriented cars in their line up to reinforce Jaguar's image and this class is fertile territory IMHO. The 1960's e-type is still one of nicest looking cars ever made and a hoot to drive BTW (I had one long ago).

Then you aren't looking at the bigger picture for Jaguar. This car will do nothing for them in the areas where they need help the most. Their tech and quality just isn't up to the German/Japanese standard. They don't have a competitor in the must lucrative part of the market and the lineup they have needs work. Another sports car clearly isn't the answer. Land Rover is in much better shape and the Evoque is a huge part of that, a direct hit on younger buyers and much more practical than a sports car. Jaguar needs a 3-Series competitor more than this sports car. Their image doesn't need fixing per say, but their bottom line does.

They have a huge hole and need in their portfolio for just this type of car, and this is a lucrative segment with much more potential volume then the XK. And they do not have a sporty car that appeals to the younger generation that is quasi-affordable. Seems to me they need this car and then some. Who says it is either/or? Don't they have plans for a 3-series competitor and AWD options planned for the XJ and XF do broaden their appeal?

Yeah they do have plans for that, but those are needed now IMO, before another sports car. Secondly their quality and technology needs an update. The inside of a Jaguar is just so outdated compared to the Germans. IMO those things should be in place first and then a sports car, but we can agree to disagree.

Yes we can. And BTW, I think the inside of the XJ, albeit retro, is quite nice and very competitive with it's German rivals.
