LaFerrari [Official] Ferrari LaFerrari

Ferrari LaFerrari (F150), is a limited production mid-engine, mild hybrid sports car. Production: 2013-2018. Successor: Ferrari F80.
Stephenson should have kept his mouth shut considering the P1 design and the fact that Ferrari is his former employee.

After a quick Google search, I got this

On day one of the 83rd annual Geneva Auto Show, I spoke with McLaren design chief Frank Stephenson on his new P1 supercar. An hour later, I ran into him at Ferrari’s busy booth where he and P1 program chief engineer Paul Mackenzie were taking a close look at the LaFerrari flagship.
Motor Trend: What are your first impressions?
Frank Stephenson: I think it’s pretty good actually. I heard all kinds of rumors and likes and dislikes…and these cars should be like that anyways. But I think it’s very nice. They’ve made a Ferrari out of it, which is good. Definitely moving on from the Enzo. This looks like a real Ferrari! I do like it…beautiful sculpture…

: [Pointing to an arc along the rear flank] I don’t agree with that line because it doesn’t do anything. That’s something we would have never done at McLaren. That line has no reason to be there.
MT: How did you get in here?
FS: [Laughs] I walked in! I used to work here!
MT: Yeah, but how did you get [Paul McKenzie] in here?
FS: I asked Luca!
Interestingly enough, later that night, I was chatting with Robert Cumberford, Automobile magazine’s automotive design editor, about the cars we had seen at the show and he echoed Stephenson’s thoughts on the Ferrari – including his dislike of the character line on the flank. Great designers do think alike.

If this is causing to ruffle some feathers, I don't see a problem. In fact, I personally find it a bit amusing, because while I think all aspects of this design are great, initially I thought that arching line is just superfluous and serves no purpose. However, if you look at it from above, there seems to be some aerodynamic merit to it.

That was praise of the highest caliber. What was he going to say further? "OMG?" He found one-line to pick on. It is McLaren, after all, makers of the MP4-12C, who thought superfluous sexiness did not belong on their car (they must have had issues with the 458, I bet).

That's not what i was referring to, actually i read some article that attributed to him the words of the F1 designer, that's why i used those strong words but it appears that they were misplaced.

For the sake of clarity there are two McLaren designers being referred in this discussion:

1. Peter Stevens - the McLaren F1's stylist - is who is being referred to in Autocar's Matt Prior-penned article. This is who is criticising the LaFerrari for being irrelevant. As if the F1 was any more relevant in its day, Mr Stevens. Supercars are entirely irrelevant from a global responsibility perspective - no matter from which angle you attempt to justify them - they go very fast and are visually arresting; there's nothing more to them than that. If the Lafer is grim-looking in Peter Stevens' eyes then he's probably just lemon lips.
2. Frank Stephenson - The designer of the P1; past and present employee of Ferrari and McLaren respectively.

They're handling it like the thoroughbred it is lol!

Hmm, the number of GCFers who want to lick a car is rising dramatically the last few weeks. I think we have a radiation leak or something like that...

:D

They say, the only one to convinve is yourself, so here goes. We people like to lick the nice things in life, ice cream, a lollipop and even cars! Of course there are the things one dare not mention on a public forum...

:p

We gotta go together then. It will probably be the only time I get to see it. Ten years ago is the only time I saw the Enzo there.
I normally go the first day it's open to the public. Bring that beautiful 6er of yours or I'm not going with you :D.

And bring a coat. It's freaking cold out here these days.

^ It looks horrible.

LaFerrari looks infinitely better. Thank God the real car didn't turn out like that.

Hey now :D There's kids reading this :p

For those that are in the know...
What's the advantage of a having a push-rod actuated suspension (like in the Enzo and Aventador) vs. Lala's set-up? The only advantage I know is that it reduces unsprung weight in each wheel. Of course, the LaFer has not been driven by anybody outside of Ferrari, but do you think that its handling will take a hit? Based on the pic of the engine bay, I understand why they could not do a push-rod setup as it would interfere with electric motor and transmission.

And with all the licking going on here, for a second, I mis-read that.

I will def be in NYC in 2 weeks. Can't wait!

M

This goes for any GCF members that are going to the NY Auto Show.
I'll be there working for Audi. If you come by our display at any time ask for Alex. During press I'll see what I can do about food, the lounge, posters, etc. There will be less quality food for the public days.
See you maybe there!
