Chiron [Official] Bugatti Chiron

The Bugatti Chiron is a mid-engine two-seater sports car designed and developed in Germany by Bugatti Engineering GmbH. It was manufactured in Molsheim, France, by French automobile manufacturer Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.. The successor to the Bugatti Veyron, the Chiron was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show on 1 March 2016.
What is annoying me is that Bugatti don't tell what car this is...is this another version that will be possible to buy? How many horsepower has it?? Can't they just tell us this and give us the specs?!

@martinbo because they knew Chiron couldnt beat Agera RS record so they went to modify/tune stock car to achieve something.
But if the Veyron got a Supersport edition of itself, why can't this be the same thing for Chiron?
So now because we can visually differentiate this longtail version of the Chiron from the original how will our thinking change if Bugatti builds 20+ of these examples? Will the achievement then be relevant?

I don't know what you've been looking at but Bugatti have clearly stated what this is: a Chiron with the same, uprated powertrain and a longtail fairing at the back.

Edit: the press release is on Bugatti's website.

Synopsis - it's a pre-production version of a forthcoming Chiron edition.
It has special derivatives of the standard tyre to ensure safety at such speed.
The cabin has seen the fitment of additional safety reinforcing to protect the driver.

So, read into it what you wish.

Bugatti have laid down the mark, it is and will always will be the 1st production car manufacturer to exceed 300mph.

No matter if Koenigsegg, SSC Tuatara or Venom F5 exceed this incredible speed of 490km/h (304.77mph), they will always be the 2nd car maker to pass the 300mph mark.

The point is that Bugatti have pulled out of the pissing contest by very cleverly cementing the fact that they are unmatched in their ability to serially produce the fastest road cars in the world, not just bring about one hit wonders.
They no longer need to prove anything. Breaking top speed records in road cars has turned into as much an irrelevant undertaking as it has a futile pursuit.

What is the percentage of road users out there capable of safely managing to travel at 190 km/h on public roads? 290 km/h? Now that's effing fast (I haven't done that ever) and properly risky to the untrained. Now go and add another 200 km/h on top of that. Only one driver in the whole world has proven to be capable of attaining that speed in a car engineered for road use.

Bugatti will continue to make ever more ridiculously powerful, fast cars but from here on the pissing contest moves into the realm of the theoretical.

My thoughts exactly, just what i've said few pages back. (y)(y)

1600HP, same as that EB110 tribute car from a few weeks ago. The only answer we don't know is when the Super Sport will be available. It could be as soon as right after Frankfurt Motor Show.

It will be relevant if they make road-not prototype version, even though nobody will drive it that fast.

Hennessey responds to Bugatti’s 300mph run

We speak to the Texan tuner about the high-speed run that broke the internet

For the last few years, there’s been a light-hearted ding-dong between a few car companies as to who’d crack 300mph first. It’s largely been a three-way fight, with Bugatti, Hennessey and Koenigsegg all putting irons in the fire. SSC has chimed in recently, claiming its Tuatara could be one of the first to hit the consecrated velocity of three hundy.

A lot of the time this felt like talk – pre-fight hype – and brought with it many, many doubters. Large pockets of the industry and internet claimed it wasn’t possible; the tyres would explode, there’d be nowhere to do it, and if you did find somewhere you’d need a gazillion horsepower to make it happen.

Then, out of nowhere, Bugatti smashed through the 300mph barrier on 2 August 2019 when Andy Wallace hit a vmax of 304.77mph. Straight after this momentous achievement, Bugatti boss Stephan Winkelmann announced Bugatti would withdraw from the competition to produce the fastest serial production cars. Talk about a mic drop.

Where does this leave the rest of the playing field? Here’s what John Hennessey had to say when he spoke to us exclusively after the run.

“I was in Arizona when I heard the news of Bugatti’s 300mph run,” John told TopGear.com. “I’ve been waiting for Bugatti to run a big number and I’m impressed with the speed. I thought there was a chance that the guys from Wolfsburg / Molsheim might try something like this, but felt that it probably would not happen until 2020. However, I’m surprised Bugatti did not run both directions.”

Ah, yes. The whole two-run thing. Bugatti’s run was verified by the TÜV – Germany’s Technical Inspection Association – not Guinness. This meant Andy and the prototype Chiron superseded previous really, really fast runs from SSC (256.18mph two-way average, 2007), Hennessey (270.49mph, 2013) and Koenigsegg (284.55 vmax, 277.87 two-way average, 2017) as well as punching through the mythical 300mph target but wouldn’t be printed in the all-time stocking filler – the Guinness Book of World Records – because it wasn’t a two-way run. John knows this criticism very well, as he’s had it fired back at him after his Venom GT ran at the Kennedy Space Center in 2014.

Saying that, John also has his reservations about the power figure that Bugatti claims for the run.

“I’m really intrigued by how much horsepower Bugatti’s engine was really making on the run. To run 40+ mph faster than the Chiron Sport that TG tested on the same track would take a lot more than a 100bhp bump, lowered suspension and some rear aero adjustments. We’re guessing that their one-off Chiron was pushing closer to 2,000bhp. Saying that, I am most impressed by Michelin. How that team was able to validate a tyre capable of 300+ mph is great. We knew that their tyres were capable of this and Bugatti helped them prove it.”

But now Bugatti has thrown up the peace signs and exited stage right from the 300mph campaign, how does this change John’s approach? After all, no one really remembers the second person to get to 300mph, right?

“This news changes nothing for us,” John says. “I believe that the race to a production series 300mph (with a two-way average speed) road car is still on and that this title remains up for grabs. Our goal is still to build the fastest and most exciting road car with the best power-to-weight ratio. F5 will be at least 450kg lighter than the Chiron, and will have more power than they are claiming. We can beat it and have a couple of highways in the USA where we think we would have enough room to hit our absolute top speed, but we would prefer to do this in Texas if possible.”

So when can we expect a response from Hennessey and the 1,600bhp twin-turbo V8 hypercar? “When we feel that the Venom F5 is ready. The first all-new carbon fibre chassis is currently being constructed, which you’ll see by the end of the year.”

As Bugatti has retired from the heavyweight division of speed who does Hennessey now see as its main competitor? Koenigsegg or SSC?

“Koenigsegg,” John says emphatically. “It builds beautiful and fast cars. And when the guys from Angelholm go out to set a speed record they do it the right way. So we congratulate our friends at Bugatti on reaching an amazing speed. But as a Bugatti executive once told me, “next time be sure to run in both directions”.

Oooo… I wonder if Bugatti can feel that burn across the Atlantic?

I am still in disbelief or shock about how fast this car is, 490km/h is incredibly fast and especially when going that speed on the road. Most commercial passenger aircrafts take off at about 300km/h and will then take a few minutes to reach 500km/h. Andy Wallace is fearless and has so much guts to attempt this speed in this car. The tunnel vision at that speed must be dizzying. Just think about this, this Chiron is 104km/h faster than the legendary McLaren F1, which itself is still one of the fastest cars ever made at 386km/h. Incredible stuff.

As far as I remember the McL F1 reached 391 km/h

I am impressed how a modified Ford GT reaches 300 mph in 22 seconds in a mile without special tires And without having to have modified the structure of the car and without a special track that has the flat straight of the world

And how many blown engines over 10+ years did it take? This thread is descending into a fruitless discussion.

Your post has got nothing to do with the Bugatti, you totally off topic here mate. No one is interested to hear about a heavily modified previous model Ford GT on this thread.

Why don't you create a separate thread for that car and post some videos on there?

If you keep polluting this thread with garbage talk on the Ford then the mods might ban you from this thread.

If you look at the paper, it looks like it's saying 'Super Sport 300+ edition'. I guess these pictures from Mclife forums are real then.
