I think I might a tiny bit prefer the interior of the X5 over the “eye candy” M850i .

I personally think that the X5 has the best interior of any new BMW, its combination of luxury and hitech and design seems the most coherent. A really stunning interior and one of the best in its class.

But this X5 and the 8er are the first two with the new interior style. The G11, G30 and X3 are in some sort of stop gap generation interior wise, and maybe the G11 7er is going for some radical changes interior wise too with the facelift? Like the new iDrive unit from X5/8er, new LCD instrument cluster, maybe the new shortcut buttons and CD player delete...

The steering wheel in the X5 is just a generic BMW steering wheel used in several models. Yes, there is some coherence and it's certainly intentional for certain design styles to match, but it's hardly unique to BMW, and is pretty basic level stuff if you're a car designer. You seem to be very easily impressed when a car happens to have a blue and white roundel on the front.

Not being negative. Just bringing things back down to Earth a bit. There's only so many times you can say a car is fantastic before it gets boring. Jesus, I'm a huge BMW fan. In fact, I ordered my ninth last Saturday. But sometimes it feels like I'm on a forum sponsored by BMW.

I've pondered this question actually. In simple terms, it's easy to understand why people want to emotionally invest, or revel, in a thread about something they like. Conversely, I would have though it obvious that if you don't like something you simply wouldn't engage with it (i.e. visit the thread), because... well, why would you?

That's not to say that if you like something, anything goes of course... but to me it just seems intuitive not to waste time on stuff you don't like.

Because I'm not psychic. I see a thread has new posts so I click on it, but you only get to see what those posts are when you've gone into the thread. It's the luck of the draw I guess as to whether what has been posted is worthwhile, but it's why there are rules about spamming or repeatedly posting the same things. I don't think anybody should be repeatedly spamming a thread saying they don't like a car, but it's nauseating when the opposite happens; repeatedly posting how amazing a car is to the point it's like a PR piece.

I wasn't particularly critical of hovabongZA's post about the interior. Just pointed out that these design features are pretty standard stuff really, and that on the 5er the dials DON'T match, and yet look at the response. A personal attack and a mob of BMW fans rabidly hitting the ratings button. These fanboys are ruining the forum. Pathetic really.

The S-Class thread was the same when the W222 was launched. There's only so many times you can hear how amazing something is before it gets boring.
