Test Review: BMW X5 30d by fly-wheel.com
Automobiles and beer have been the German monopoly for an aeon. While the later one can be considered a personal choice – the limits and extremes to be defined individually, but on the other hand, there is certainly no such thing as “car-overdose”. Nope.
To fit into the ‘work hard, party harder’ culture, BMW has introduced the reinvented X5 into their Third Generation series of cars, making it the first SUV to be categorized in the Third Gen list.
Exteriors:
The most noticeable change in the Third Gen X5 is the enlarged kidney; the iconic BMW kidney grilles now span wider. Compared to it`s second gen predecessor, it curb-weighs a few kilogram on the lighter side while the outward dimensions are increased, but on a negligible scale in millimeters.Sun-roof and Head lamps flaunt the prominent BMW styling. The aesthetic and aerodynamic aspects are well taken care of, even with the dimensional constraints maintained, X5 sports an intimidating and masculine look.
Interior:
The 5-door, 7-seater has a spacious cockpit that oozes with quality.Comfortable leather –finished seats and solidly constructed dashboard and panels ensure that no compromises are made over the Ergonomics and Classy looks. The boot space is slightly cramped even with the 60:40-split foldable rear seats.
Engine and Transmission:
The available variants include a turbocharged 3.0 liter 258bhp 6 cylinder in-line diesel engine that powers all 4 wheels with it`s 8-speed transmission system. With a decent 258 bhp at 4000rpm and maximum Torque of 560 Nm between 1500 and 3000 rpm, the car seems to justify the manufacturer`s claim of sprinting from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and clocking a top speed of 230kmph.
Ride Quality and Stability:
The spacious leg room and almost-perfect ergonomic design promises of a good ride quality, even before the engine is ignited. And thankfully, the later part is satisfactorily convincing as well. The Combination of high pedal sensitivity, swift acceleration, smooth-dynamicsuspension and low acoustic disturbances adds to the pleasure of driving. The Air Suspension in the rear and the Adaptive suspension system in the front hardly let any vibrations disturb the driver-comfort, even while cruising on the drive-plus/sprint-plus mode on a moderately rough road. The power steering system enables the vehicle to attain a turning radius of 6.4 meters with light cornering steers. Sharp steer and parking sensors at both the ends makes driving a lot easier within the city limits, while the smooth transmission, suspension and high tire traction gives an unmatched highway-drive experience.
Overall, a well-deserved luxury SUV specimen of quality paired with brand reliability.
