Official: BMW topples Mercedes-Benz, Lexus for U.S. luxury sales crown

Human

You. The Road. Nothing else.
For the first time ever,
BMW
has has become the best-selling luxury brand in the United States, but both it and its staunch German rival
Mercedes-Benz
slid past
Lexus
.
:eusa_clap

After delaying their reporting a day to re-tally the number of cars they sold,Mercedes-Benz and BMW announced their annual sales figures for the hotly-contested United States market today. When the dust settled, BMW emerged with 247,907 deliveries in 2011, while Mercedes-Benz checked in with 245,192.A strong December for Mercedes-Benz resulted in 25,701 sales, a 28 percent increase, but BMW’s comparatively modest 15 percent increase to 26,834 was enough to solidify a victory. Both brands took over for Lexus , which had previously commanded an 11-year lead in the luxury segment. Beset by production and supply shortages related to the March 2011 earthquake in its home market of Japan, Lexus ended 2011 down 13 percent to 198,552.Both BMW and Mercedes-Benz have only held the sales crown once; Mercedes-Benz was the top-selling luxury brand in 1999, after decades of battles betweenLincoln and Cadillac . By comparison, Lincoln found just 85,643 buyers last year and 152,389 took home Cadillacs.

Well well well....imo those numbers are almost too close to call. Sales are virtually identical...

Very close indeed. This will make these two so competitive this year it'll be sickening. It seems like M-B closed the year with more momentum (larger year over year gains and edged closer to BMW), however that makes sense because they released more new products recently I believe.

Crazy how close this thing got, anyway. Gotta wonder how stupid the deals were on these cars as these guys desperately scratched and clawed. I think I heard BMW's incentives were larger than M-B's, which would make sense as they were in the position to hold down the lead they had all year to confirm "victory".

Congrats, anyway, but this stuff gets me weary. These guys shifting their attention more and more toward mass and sales crowns will do nothing good for the products (it never works that way in businesses).

^well i have some stocks..so yes abit me:)

But nor are you selling those BMW's..so it should not interest you either then.

The true measure of a company's success is the money they earn..not how many they sell..

Im sure Ahlgrens sells more candy cars than any real car manufacturer.. but who cares when the candy costs 1 cent.

Whats interesting is the profit!!!

Units sale in all honour, profit is what its all about.

BMW AG

Revenue €60.48 billion (2010)[2]
Operating income €5.094 billion (2010)[2]
Profit €3.218 billion (2010)[2]
Total assets €108.87 billion (end 2010)[2]
Total equity €23.10 billion (end 2010)[2]

Daimler AG

Revenue €97.76 billion (2010)[1]
Operating income €7.274 billion (2010)[1]
Profit €4.498 billion (2010)[1]
Total assets €135.83 billion (end 2010)[1]
Total equity €37.95 billion (end 2010)[1]

PS
These are numbers for the whole concern, not the brands alone. But i recall we had a thread where they were posted.

Wow thats cool Artist. For your sake I hope the stocks grow for you.

Im intrested in the sales for one reason because I want to know it the sales are better than last year. Nothing else. You should have asked why instead of presenting lots of numbers I dont care about :) Again, the money doesnt go to my pocket so why would I care about profits. I dont even care which brand sell most cars. Just wanted to know if its better than last year.
