It's true that the concept served as a marketing tool to both lift the profile of diesels in US market and to benefit from the Le Mans success but the R8 V12 TDI also had a chance of making it to production. Otherwise it would have made little sense to make a driveable concept with all the engineering effort that was required to make it work.As if anyone expected the opposite out come. The concept merely acted as a marketing puppet for hyping up the release of the Q7 V12.
