Rapide [Official] Aston Martin Rapide S

A very rare sighting here in Hamburg...and its' been ages since I've last seen one "in the metal, on the road". But having been fortunate enough to spot one quite recently, I was reminded just how beautiful this car is. Still.

How long has it been on the market ? Over 8 years now...?

Is it safe to say this car has aged well?

Most if not all AM's from that era are timeless, IMO. Great proportions with the right amount of curvaceousness and confident lines.

The fatal (sales) flaw of the Rapide's design was/is that interior room is absolutely atrocious. It's almost as long as a SWB S-class, but the interior is line with a CLA. Even boot volume is bad.

Ride comfort wasn't there, and the technology was beyond dated-on-arrival. It drives very sporty, but significant weight increase over the DB9/Vanquish means a 335i would give pre-ZF 8 speed Rapides (2010-12) trouble in a drag race.

Aston Martin Rapide AMR Scooped As A 210 MPH Luxury Sedan

Aston Martin Rapide is getting long-in-tooth but the company is trying to keep interest alive by introducing a high-performance AMR variant.

Previewed by a concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Rapide will become the second model from the company’s new AMR sub-brand. It follows in the footsteps of the Vantage AMR which was introduced last summer.

As you can see in the latest spy photos, the Rapide AMR has been equipped with an aggressive body kit that includes a new front fascia with a sportier grille. The model has also a front splitter, aerodynamic side skirts, a ventilated hood and 21-inch alloy wheels.

The unique styling cues continue at the rear as designers installed a unique bumper, a rear spoiler and a conservative diffuser. The dual exhaust system on the prototype is only temporary as the company has already confirmed the production model will have a quad setup.

Aston has said the interior will be “equally breathtaking” as drivers can expect to find Alcantara upholstery and carbon fiber trim. The concept also suggested the production model will have carbon fiber front seats and Lime Green accents inside and out.

Like the concept, the road-going model will have a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 that produces 600 PS (591 hp / 441 kW). This is a significant increase over the 560 PS (552 hp / 411 kW) Rapide S and the company has previously said it will enable the Rapide AMR to be the “world’s fastest and most thrilling four-door, capable of 210 mph (337 km/h).”

Production will be limited to 210 units and Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer has already confirmed there will be an AMR version of every model in the Aston Martin range including the extreme Valkyrie.

The Rapide AMR continues to use Aston's naturally aspirated V12, and it now produces 580 hp and 465 pound-feet (630 Newton-meters), versus 552 hp (412 kW) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) from the version in the Rapide S. The revised tuning to unleash the extra power includes larger inlet manifolds and tuned-length dual inlet runners. The upgrade lets the sedan reach 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 4.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 205 mph (330 kph).
