Valkyrie [Official] Aston Martin - From AM-RB 001 to Valkyrie

The Aston Martin Valkyrie (also known by its code-names as AM-RB 001 and Nebula) is a limited production hybrid sports car collaboratively built by Aston Martin, Red Bull Racing Advanced Technologies, and several other parties. Production: November 2021 – December 2024.
1:40.8 around Silverstone this year in qualifying.

I'd be surprised if the Valkyrie gets there on road tyres. 1100hp is no more use than 600hp if the tyres can don't have the tractive force to put the power down. Braking distances will also be much longer.
Thank you for clarifying that. I didn't have time to watch the video so I didn't chime in, but it's interesting for me to see what they were talking about as it involves a race car topic.

I'll try to watch ot later on.

Do you know if this lap time is from the 5,1 km layout or the 5,9 km GP layout?

5.901km, dry, track temp 28°C, air temp 18°C.
Ok thanks! Botta was fastest around there this year in his F1 Mercedes lapping in 1:25,09. Aston Martin has earlier claimed that the Valkyrie track version (with slicks) will be as fast as a F1 car. So all this means the street version Valkyrie (with normal Cup 2) should lap Silverstone faster than 1:40 and the track version about 1:25. It is also interesting to mention that Chris Harris lapped the McLaren Senna at 2:09,2 around this track. This means that the Valkyrie should be 30 sec faster than the Senna, which is the fastest thing you can buy now (and ugliest). Something is not right here.....?!

Another datapoint to consider, an AM Vantage GT3 on race rubber with 550hp, and fixed aero does it 10 seconds faster than the Senna.

Just my opinion, but I keep one thing as a benchmark... a BTCC Ford Focus is as fast around Silverstone National as the LaFerrari, P1, 918. A production derived hatch with ~350hp, sensible weight and suspension that would be uncomfortable on a road car, no trick aero, FWD, and no hybrid system - on race tyres - is as fast as some of the most exotic of recent supercars, with all their power and electronics - on road tyres. Race tyres are on another level, if Road tyres could take those levels of energy going through them, and offer the same grip, they'd use them in racing.

Like I say, just my opinion.

it would be interesting to see how fast a race car is on a road tyre and vice versa, just to see how much mechanical grip actually matters

According to new info from TheSupercarBlog, Aston Martin is building a "LM" version of the Valkyrie, which will be based on the race car which will run in the 2020 24h of Le Mans.
Thus, this car will not be road legal.

So, it is an occasion to update the list of what should be all the upcoming versions of the Valkyrie, according to all the info we have got so far.
There should be:

- The "standard" Valkyrie, which will be road legal

- The Valkyrie "track pack", which is the standard car with a dedicated aero kit which will improve lap times of around 8%. The cars equipped with the track pack won't probably be road legal in most of the countries, but the pack is thought to be easily removed and/or applied to the car

- The Valkyrie AMR Pro, which is the rule-free track only version

- The Valkyrie race car which will take part at the 24h of Le Mans of 2020. This version will ditch the hybrid system and will probably run on a detuned version of the V12 Cosworth engine. Furthermore, the car will probably be heavier than even its road-legal counterpart to meet FIA regulations about the allowed minimum weight. Moreover, it could be possible that the car will feature a FIA limited aerodynamic package with thus less downforce than its other counterparts. There's a chance that the race car can be slower than the road car, LOL. For sure, this version should be considerably slower than the track-only AMR Pro

- The Valkyrie LM: 25 units apparently will be built, being inspired by the Le Mans FIA race car version. They won't be road legal

- The Valkyrie "Red Bull Signature edition", which should directly come with the "track pack" and a dedicated special livery

- The Valkyrie "Special Variant": apparently, only 10 copies will be built at £3.5 millions each and they all will be offered to select customers who have already purchased the Valkyrie AMR Pro

- The "Ultimate" Valkyrie: apparently, this will be the most extreme interpretation of any Valkyrie and it will be closer to the first sketches of the Valkyrie compared to the standard spec. This car will be produced in just 10 copies at £5 millions each and it will apparently be offered only to few select customers who already purchased the AMR Pro version. It is said that this car will be sold in the USA under the “Show or Display” rule

I think the last two won't exist. It seems the last "special edition" is a misconception/false rumor. The standard Valkyrie will be already sold under show and display law.

In regards to the other one. Sure you can have one more "signature edition". But I don't see the point in it from Aston Martin's side when they already have the Red Bull edition. What are they going to do? Create a Bosch edition?

Glorious.
This thing just plays in its own field.

Love it! Just hoping Aston will not follow in the footsteps of the cowards Bugatti/Koenigsegg/Pagani and don’t letting magazines do instrumental tests....

Unless Stroll buys AM and Lance will drive it. Then there won't be any lap records.[/QU...

disagree AM have been pretty bold in there predictions that this will be be the fastest production car around any track, there’s no way they aren’t going to allow testing, it would be terrible PR for them.

Well, Bugatti & Co doesn’t allow testing, but it doesn’t seem they have problems selling their cars. Not letting magazines testing the cars is not a reason for the buyers of these cars to stop buying them, it’s more annoying for us that like compare test results

My god Rosberg is annoying to listen to, couldn’t finish this video either...

I agree with you.

In any case, I would like to point out that, both in the english and german versions of the video, he spoke about 1260 PS for the Valkyrie, instead of 1160 PS that we used to know...
An error, or maybe not?

Also, these information was provided by Aston Martin in the video:

- With slicks, the "standard" Valkyrie can lap within 95% of the performance of a F1 car
- With slicks, the Track Pack Valkyrie can lap within 97% of the performance of a F1 car
- The AMR Pro will be faster than a F1 car (105%)

Now, of course everything remains to be seen and verified. Also, which F1 car? V8 F1 cars of early 2010s are faster than early hybrid cars (2014-2016) but slower than 2017 cars and considerably slower than 2018-2019 ones.
However, despite current F1 cars being the fastest ever in qualifying, their race pace is slower than what it could be due to the savings which must be done in terms of fuel, engines and so on.
Also, V10s 2004 F1 cars are slower than current cars in qualifying, but unlike them they could sustain a whole race under a qualifying pace.

So, this "F1 car" reference is pretty generic if you ask me.
I think it's time that they (AM and Red Bull) become more specific about it, since this "F1 car pace reference" has been around forever since the first sketches of the Valkyrie (2016, 2017 Project Nebula).

I agree with you.

In any case, I would like to...

That can't be true. Within 95% of F1 car?

Think about it. The fastest F1 car goes around Spa in 1.42 minutes. That's about 102 seconds. Porsche 919 Evo did the same. A regular LMP1 car does 1.54 minutes or 114 seconds. And an LMP2 car in 122 seconds.

95% of F1 means 105 seconds. That's 1 minute 45 seconds.
97% would be 103 seconds. It's 1 minute 43 seconds.
105% would be 5 seconds faster than the fastest F1 car currently.

Impossible for Valkyrie. But the AMR Pro has a chance to get closer to a F1 or a 919 Evo though.
