Mustang Cobra and Dark Horse Boss in testing

New spy shots! Could this be what is going to be announced this week 🤔Cobra Dark Horse Boss Not.webp

So the new Dark Horse will have a supercharger, but the most important questions remain whether it will still have a manual transmission as an option and whether it will come with the existing 5.0-litre engine or the 5.2-litre engine.
Rumour has it that it will be called "Dark Horse Boss" or "Dark Horse SC".
There is also talk of a price between $80K and $100K and 800hp.
If it has a manual gearbox, it will be twice as attractive as the GTD for three times less money!
Can't wait to know more.

This is it, now, are they going to offer it in Europe, and how many horses will be lost over the pond, again 10% ( 507 to 453) like on the current dark horse.

Looking at the engine specs, it really is a Shelby GT500 in everything but name. It has the same engine as the older car. It's good to see that Ford is not giving up on the Mustang.

Most Powerful Shelby GT350 in History Now Available in Convertible

LAS VEGAS - January 14, 2026
- The Shelby GT350 has returned for 2026 with a new optional convertible, from Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBIK). The 810 horsepower* supercharged sports car will make its public debut at the 2026 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, along with other new Shelby vehicles.

"The 1965 Shelby GT350 was so popular that Carroll Shelby decided to build more for 1966, including fastbacks, a handful of convertibles and even a supercharged version,"" said Joe Conway, CEO of Shelby American. "Those cars became performance icons that are among the most coveted vehicles in the world. Sixty years later, the snake strikes again with both a supercharged and convertible options available for the Shelby GT350.""

Shelby American reintroduced the Shelby GT350 fastback in January 2025, writing a new chapter in performance and motorsports history. Unveiled on the 2025 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction block, the Shelby GT350 quickly became a topic of conversation worldwide.

"Demand was so strong worldwide for the Shelby GT350 that the car has returned for a second model year,"" said Gary Patterson, President of Shelby American. "Just as Carroll Shelby did in 1966, we carried over the proven formula that made the car such a strong performer the year before, but with more choices. Now enthusiasts can build their Shelby GT350 with a manual or automatic transmission as either a fastback or convertible. That means the 2026 model is the most powerful Shelby GT350 fastback and convertible in history.""

To create the latest version of the hallowed model, Shelby American collaborated with industry leaders such as Whipple, Borla and Michelin to create the car. It features a highly tuned and upgraded suspension, robust exhaust note, bolder styling and other elements for a thrilling driving experience. The 5.0L V8 powered car is offered in both 480 and 810* (supercharged) horsepower versions with a choice of manual or automatic transmission. The Shelby GT350 offers significant performance for its price; a nicely equipped supercharged fastback is $121,385, including the car, while the convertible is $127,884.

"Since it was unveiled in 1965, the Shelby GT350 has been powered by a variety of available V8 Ford engines over the years,"" said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American Vice President of Operations and Senior Designer. "The 810 horsepower V8 we use in 2026, along with the enhanced suspension, aerodynamic styling and other improvements make the car awesome to drive on a road trip, daily commute or the track."

New for 2026 is the "Orange Fury" exterior color and return of the revered convertible option.

"My grandfather built a quartet of Shelby GT350 convertibles for 1966, each a different color,"" said Aaron Shelby, board member of Carroll Shelby International. "Those cars became the stuff of legend. Craig Jackson, Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO, who owns one of the four, generously lent us his red 1966 Shelby GT350 convertible for the model's public reintroduction. Only a small number of the 2026 convertibles will be built, making them extremely rare."

A limited number of street cars will be built by Shelby mod shops and distributors internationally ranging from Europe to the Asia Pacific region.

New Car Celebrates 60th Anniversary of Trans Am Racing Series

LAS VEGAS - January 23, 2026 - Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBIK), today introduced a limited run of 2026 Shelby GT350/TA edition cars at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Ariz. The 830+ horsepower sports car is inspired by Trans Am SGT category specs in honor of the 60th anniversary of the first year of the series, which Shelby-built Ford Mustangs helped Ford Motor Company win in 1966. Constructed in collaboration with Turn Key Automotive, the street legal GT350/TA is track-ready with components from Shelby's future Trans Am spec race car.
"1966 was a dominant year for Shelby American in motor racing,"" said Joe Conway, CEO of Shelby American. "Shelby American helped Ford Motor Company win the FIA World Sportscar Championship, largely thanks to the legendary victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, along with SCCA B-production series with the Shelby GT350. Shelby's efforts were vital in Ford's overall Trans-Am success, as the Mustangs' points helped it win the first-ever Manufacturers' Championship. We're returning to those racing roots with this limited-edition car, which also portends many elements of our future Trans Am spec race car."

The Trans-Am series Manufacturers' Championship was new for 1966, which Ford Motor Company won with Shelby's help. Shelby American built race spec Ford Mustangs for the Trans Am Group 2, using many parts from their "R" models but retaining Ford VINs for manufacturer points. Drivers like Jerry Titus, Peter Talbert, Ira Morrison and Vic McClain raced Shelby American Group 2 Mustang notchbacks in the inaugural series, helping Ford win the championship with key wins and points.

"The 2026 Shelby GT350/TA is an amazing car that builds upon the 60th anniversary model Shelby GT350R that we introduced last year," said Gary Patterson, President of Shelby American. "This sports car is designed to be competitive on both the street and track. Our motorsports roots are deep, and we continue to bring that championship DNA to every car we build."

The Shelby GT350/TA was built for the serious weekend track warrior. Beginning with the popular street version of the 2026 Shelby GT350, the Shelby team turned up the performance to new levels. The team focused on reducing weight, sharpening the performance and keeping it cool at speed.

"We spent an incredible amount of attention on enhancing the aerodynamics on this car," said Vince LaViolette, Vice President of Operations and Senior Designer at Shelby American. "From revised front splitters to the new hood and upgraded rear diffuser, this car is even better at slicing through the wind. We have more aggressive suspension pieces, Trans Am spec wheels and tires and upgraded cooling systems to ensure peak performance, lap after lap."

The street legal 2026 Shelby GT350/TA has 830+ horsepower and is only available with a six-speed manual transmission. The street-legal, track-ready Shelby GT350/TA features a carbon fiber interior 'tub', integrated roll cage, Trans AM spec high speed carbon fiber Aero package, fully adjustable race struts and shocks with remote reservoir, new Alcon racing brakes, numerous chassis upgrades and more.

For 2026, key differences include:
  • New carbon fiber front splitter, fiber fender vents, rocker/splitter, grille and fascia aero dive planes
  • Shelby Performance hood with carbon fiber air extraction and painted Shelby ghost graphic
  • Quad exhaust outlet at the rear diffuser with GT350R muffler and black accented tips
  • Carbon tail panel with GT350/TA graphic or the 60th Trans AM ghost graphic
  • Quarter panel Shelby Racing Team matte finish graphic for the 60th anniversary package
  • Trans Am spec Forgeline Wheels with Perelli P Zero tires
  • Pro Systems Alcon Endurance brake package
  • Safety cage with carbon fiber protective covers
  • New colors - Grabber Blue, Oxford White, Shadow Black, Orange Fury, Carbonized Gray, or Race Red with coordinated graphics package
  • Shelby GT350/TA door graphic
The 70 Shelby GT350/TA model cars will be built in Michigan in collaboration with Turn Key Automotive/Motorsports. The company has deep experience in performance parts, racing and low volume niche programs, and provides the expertise, parts, services and support to take a project from rendering to reality.

"Working with Shelby American has been a great adventure for our team," said Turn Key owner Rich Rinke. "It is exciting to help Shelby connect enthusiasts with motorsports through limited edition cars that leverage our extensive competition experience. This incredible car will impress any serious racer."

In addition to collaborating with Shelby American on the street legal Shelby GT350/TA, Turn Key is helping develop a track only version of the sports car intended for competition in Trans Am. Turn Key is an approved Trans Am vehicle builder of SGT and GT vehicles with a stellar reputation for success. Together, they are developing a Trans AM spec race car with plans for an official entry in the 2026 race season. Jack Rinke, a Turn Key Development Engineer who worked on the Shelby GT350R and new Shelby GT350/TA, intends to compete in the car.

"1966 was an incredibly important year in motorsports, especially for sports car racing," said Aaron Coalwell, Technical Director at the Trans Am Race Company. "While the Shelby American team GT40s were winning Le Mans, the Shelby built Mustangs were Ford's significant North American road racing effort. Who would have thought in 1966 that we would still be going strong 60 years later? So many manufacturers, car models, and racing series have come and gone since 1966. We are very pleased to collaborate with Shelby on this new car, which we hope is just the beginning of a new chapter in our shared motorsports history. We can't wait to see these cars on the track."

Production is limited to 70 total cars for 2026. All will be available directly through Shelby American and the MSRP will be announced shortly. Each vehicle from Shelby American is documented in the official Shelby Registry. Individuals interested in a Shelby vehicle can visit their local dealer or go to shelby.com.
