You can just make out the real Ferrari driving out of its shell
Metamorfosi della specie Ferrari

What bugs me most about this car is that, almost every single person who studies car design arrives at this same exact design early in their career, like first semester stuff, the same single line that sweeps around the car as the only feature, the windshield that goes below the front spoiler making a fake wedge type thing... and you think to yourself that you are a master in minimalism and a genius, but at that point you're still learning how to design a car, and that's why you do it. When I started I did it, my friends did it. I was also tutor for a bit and almost all the students did it, it's super generic. Then you move on from it cause you start actually learning how to design a car. (I know current new cars are not validating my point in any way, truly a dark age)

And this makes me think that this was just the first idea they had. That they didn't go through much iterations because they are not car designers, like people in their first semester, and probably we will never see a development drawing of this car, because maybe there aren't any. hopefully I'm wrong

Ferrari is trolling because they truly don’t care about EVs. It’s a very expense troll, but a troll no less.

This is the first time when I wish I have a time machine, so I can travel back to the precise moment when I can stop Ferrari from approving the Luce project.

This.. they were forced to do this exercise and they did it… making the most expensive unattractive people mover.. now they can hold their head up high and say we tried but no one wanted it… kind of sad… they could have made a much cheaper EV to attract new clientele. Circa $200K range, like a lofted Tycan Turbo GT competitor.

I have a feeling the Luce was in development for so long that the basic proportions were fixed before it became evident how badly the Mercedes one-bow EQ design language would be received and how bad the sales would be. The Luce feels like a 1st generation EV whose shape would be fixed eventually in the second generation. It looks like the kind of shape that could have come out 5 years ago

Everybody complains about exterior design, but why is the range so low?
It has a huge battery, so the efficiency can’t be good. But the range is ok. I believe most would agree that this car has some much bigger problems that is more worthy talking about.

After watching a lot of Luce content, I still don't like the exterior, it wouldn't take a lot to fit it but I really really like the interior, it's easily the best interior of any car launched this year, it's modern yet retro at the same time, it's not over styled and impractical like every other current or recent Ferrari.

A restyled front like this render would sort it out.

That looks better. More Ferrari than Fisher Price.

I was thinking the same thing except 1) the facilities developed for BEV production in Maranello, and 2) the current CEO was brought in due to his expertise in electrification.

They still had to develop the car. You can put effort into something you really don’t give a shit about, just to get it over with. I think they said let’s see the wackiest design you can come up with and when presented during a board meeting, someone said I dare you to build it.

this whole car just seems like a big branding exercise, you have Ferrari (biggest automotive brand), Jony Ive (Apple) and Marc Newson (highly successful product designer)

of course the biggest names here are Ferrari x Apple and yet no one seemed to have been told that Apple fans and Ferrari fans are 2 different groups, which leaves me with the question who was their target audience?

big brand + big brand does not equal a good product and there should be enough examples through history to prove it

It's working unlike anything before. Ferrari has been the main topic this whole week in the (not just) automotive press, and there is no such thing as bad publicity.

It's masterful when you think about it. The car is paying itself back right now, many rich people have that Ferrari seed planted this week, even if it were purely subconscious.

the target audience is techbros, that's why MKBHD is the only YouTuber who was allowed to drive it and they gave him more time with the car, compared to actual car journalists

I wonder if it will result in sales tho?

And even he didn’t like it according to his podcast.

It's not up to par; this king of boring design will soon be forgotten. I think once the initial fuss about why Ferrari made that thing dies down, no one will want to go near this blatant failure; they won't want to touch it with a ten-foot stick.
I've never seen such a viral, heated, and unanimous rejection of a car
