Full debut later tonight
Skoda has accidently published the first fully revealing image with their flagship model, the all-new fourth-gen Superb. The image has been removed but we were able to grab it before it was taken down.

The full debut is scheduled for later tonight at a special event in Prague, Czech Republic so technical specifications are not available at this point. However, the attached official image does allow to us see the design has been overhauled compared to the outgoing model as the new Superb looks far more refined and also considerably different than the Volkswagen Passat B8 upon which is based.

Compared to its German sibling, the new Superb will be larger and more spacious inside the cabinwhich has already been previewed. It will likely be a hatchback (liftback) whereas the Passat is a sedan with a less practical trunk.

Check back later today for full details.

Not bad looking! Typical Skoda styling but with more edges and creases.

The headlights have a bit tricky shape, but overall the car is typically Skoda. I expect it to be massive value-for-money!

Is 75 kg lighter than the outgoing model

SkodaHome.cz has published the Czech press release of the 2016 Skoda Superb that comprehensively discusses every aspect of the car.
Having found more than 700,000 buyers, the Superb enters the third generation, and is shaped by the VisionC concept. The wheelbase has grown by 80 mm, while the front overhang is shortened by 61 mm, giving it a more dynamic appearance.

Up front, the car is defined by the distinctive grille, and sharply cut headlights. The side profile is characterized by narrow pillars, a chiseled waistline and a gently sloping roof, giving the appearance of a luxury coupe, says Skoda.
Moving to the rear, the car features taillamps with LED elements, with the C-shaped detailing.

Compared to the previous generation, interior space in the new model Superb is even better with 157 mm better rear knee room and 69 mm better elbow room compared to the previous model. It offers a luggage compartment with a volume of 625 liters, which is 30 liters more than the second generation.

Coming to the features the car adopts the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Driving Mode Select, a new three-zone automatic climate control, electrically operated panoramic tilt and slide roof, heated seats, windshield and washer nozzles, rain sensor and light sensor.
The car also comes with a new electrically operated tailgate, Park Assist for automated parking, and rear view camera.

The third generation model gets four new infotainment system options. The top-end version comes with integrated high speed internet access based on LTE. The SmartLink interface includes MirrorLink ™, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SmartGate interface, developed by Skoda, allows you to send the selected vehicle data into an application on the driver’s smartphone.
The audio system uses twelve speakers and has a 610 watt power output.

Talking about the mechanical kit, the new Superb consumes up to 30 percent lesser fuel than the outgoing car, thanks to the 75 kg weight loss and improved aerodynamics.
The 2016 Superb comes with five petrol engines and three diesel engines. All engines meet the emission standards of EU6 and are fitted with a start-stop system and brake energy recuperation. The petrol engines cover a power range from 92 kW (125 hp) to 206 kW (280 hp). The output spectrum of diesel engines ranges from 88 kW (120 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp).

With the exception of the basic petrol engine, all others are paired to a modern dual-clutch DSG gearbox. Also on offer is an all-wheel drive variant featuring the 5th generation Haldex system.
In the safety department, the new Superb is equipped as standard with electronic stability control (ESC), emergency brake function, electronic tire pressure monitor, seven airbags, five three-point seatbelts and optional rear side airbags.
Optionally, the new Superb can be further equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Assist system helps and Traffic Jam Assist system.

A bit boring inside-out but yes, it's a Skoda and it doesn't pretend to be what it isn't.
You get so much car for the money that it's making it almost impossible to justify anything else in this class and even the class above if it's simply a family car that you need.
"Simply clever", indeed! Ohhh and it's lighter while featuring superb engines!
Superb!

EDIT: When will the "big" 2L Diesel make it's way to this car?

Inoffensive but this keeps its popularity because of what it offers for the money whether used as a taxi or straight up family or business purpose it will still be a top seller because its highly competent.
Problem is maybe it will challenge its in house rival the Passat? Especially when you are getting much, much more for less money.
Skoda sales are cannibalising VW sales in Europe.

It looks nice ... BUT ... I don't like all VAG cars are starting to feature SAME design language and even styling cues. Walter de Silva is going a bit too far with this. From the side profile it's now hard to differentiate VW from Skoda, Audi, even Seat in some cases. At least each brand should have it's OWN, dedicated design language. But it now seems somebody @ VAG (hint: Piech / Winterkorn tandem ) has a "brilliant" idea to give some sort a unified family look / resemblance to all VAG brands & cars. Or it is just a lack of imagination on WDS's side?
