Price is everything here. This car might compete with both the 335i and the M3, depending on price.

Don't think Audi will try to make the S4 a sandwich inbetween the 335i and S4. Especially when the C63 is very competativerly priced in the US. We'll probably get to known the price in the coming days.

Audi have seen the success of the 335i which is why they have repositioned the S4 to a lower position in the segment putting it head to head with the 335i.

The S4 never really competed with the M3 in Europe. The B5 S4 was already 55hp short of the E36 M3, it was just that the E46 M3 had such a slight power increase over the E36 M3 that the B6 S4 kindof matched the E46 while the B5 RS4 was already boasting 380hp.

Interior looks fantastic... the car overall looks great!

Power & performance is good, but I was expecting more. Because in a nutshell, it represent slightly better performance to an 335i while for the price only slightly below the M3.

The differences with the standard A4 are almost imperceptible. It looks good but not very exciting. If we look at the power figures it's clear that this new S4 is aimed against the 335i like some of you already pointed out. It's interesting that it has less power than B7 S4, S5 and E46 M3.


NEW (B8) S4: 245 kW
OLD (B7) S4: 253 kW
E46 M3: 252 kW
S5: 260 kW

If Audi has really repositioned the S4 against the 335, then I just hope they will adjust the price as well. Now considering that interior, Audi can permit themselves to be a little more expensive then the 335, but they have to remain fairly close.

I agree Martin. This is the thing that worries me the most too. The price should definitely be a lot closer to the 335xi than to the M3 Sedan.

They should've saved the quads for the RS4

At Audi the quads are reserved for S-models and the RS-models get the twin ovals.

I like it. Looks more clean and elegant than a C63 which I find over designed in some parts. I wouldn't choose a S4 over a C63 but based on looks alone, the S4 is looking better than C63.

The S4 is clearly a competitor against the 335i. Stop comparing this car to the M3. They are in different segments.

A4 (varios engines) = 3 Series (varios engines)
S4 = 335i
RS4 = M3

Audi will be better than both BMWs when the new RS4 debuts next year.

Yep i agree,that car is definitely more clean looking than both C63 and E90 M3.A true sleeper while the C63 is screams outrageousness

It's interesting that it has less power than B7 S4, S5 and E46 M3.

And yet it distances all of the above mentioned to 100 km/h, and the fuel consumption is much lower. That's what I call engineering!!

I have a technical question hopefully martin or one of the pro's answer ... does a supercharge engine suffer from a Lag as in a turbo engine ? As far as I am concerned the supercharge fitting is different from the turbo where it is directly powered from the engine main belt (which means instant spooling of the charger) .... I could be wrong but I hope some one answer ..

I just did some digging and discovered that the 335i is just over €5 000 cheaper than the 3.2 Quattro. So I really wonder what Audi are aiming to do here.

I missed that somewhere.

And..hold your breath. I find the C63 a better looking car than the S4.
But the normal A4 looks better than the C-Class.
Both are my two big favos in the segment though.

I wish the A4/S4 had the LEDs as the A5/S5 had!
