Nokia N8

Do you think Android is better than Symbian ^3 or is it just personal preference ?

Oh, just personal preference. Though I have an iphone 3gs, I prefer android. I have never used Symbian3 to like it or not like it.

Happy to hear your enjoying it, I've also been pleased with my Nokias, they've gone through lots of things (like mud, big falls, water et.c.) and still continued working. Nice bike and pic btw! :usa7uh: Oh btw, what do you think about OVI? At least to my phone (5730 expressmusic) it's rubbish :eusa_doh:

They're all D-bags...they brag about crap that isn't even new. Facetime? Yeah, welcome to early 2000s.

Hahah..spot on! Their pr strategy has been very, very effective...

The same for me. iOS, android, and symbian3 all do the job.. as a matter of fact, before I got the N8, I was up for an upgrade from my carrier (att) and I could have gone for the new galaxy S, but I really wanted to get a phone with a great camera and other nice multimedia features so i went for the N8, it had little to do with the OS really. I guess I am one of the few..most people care more about the OS than they do about the hardware. My train of thought was "point and shoot, sat nav, music/video player, and a phone all in one, for less than $500.. give me one!"

They are durable, for the most part :) The new OVi store app is really easy to use and navigate around. I don't know how it is on the 5730, but on the N8 you click on the app, click donwload, and that is it. It installs the app on its own after it is done downloading. And the payment option is cool, it goes trough your carrier (att in my case) they just add the price of your app to your phone bill. I just got Angry Birds and Racing academy.. well worth the $4! 3d games look pretty good on the phone, I also played Angry birds on a big screen trough HDMI..
And thanks for the kind words.. I see that my chain was off in that pic ha

omg amazing camera quality! This thing really makes the iphone4 seem very very very expensive and not worth the money. but then, i think this phone just doesn't look good enough.

^^You make me want the N8 every day.

BTW...dude, I completely forgot you are in Santa Cruz. I was there this summer when my fraternity rented a beach house.

You guys picked the right town ;) did you get to surf at all ? If you visit again let me know

And ya, Nokia did well with the N8.. It has been good so far. And just heads up there are reports of defective ones (they won't turn on) but they say it is a small number and it is covered by the warranty.

Nah. I want to learn to surf. I'll definitely hit you up next time dude.

As for the N8. I can't afford it yet. The latest thing I'm buying is a new mp3 player since my Zune80 died.

For sure, if you end up here let me know

Ahh, sorry about your Mp3 player man.. I shouldn't say it but.. the N8 makes for a pretty good mp3 player! I tried the Fm transmitter in my car today, cool stuff. But it doesn't support .flac so...

So today I finally had some time to put my canon dslr (Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : Digital Rebel XTi) paired with a real nice tamron lens(Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Lens Review) , against my N8. It isn't very scientific, but you get a clear picture of where we really stand when it comes to phones vs. semi-pro DSLRs :rotate: Nokia did an amazing job on the camera, I am pretty sure that most of us here agree on that, but to actually claim that it can rival an DSLR is silly. The N8 takes care of a lot of point and shoots, and that is more than enough for me...

Here is a picture of the beast:

When I get more time I will do a macro session

It's amazing what you can do with the N8 using a tripod, a magnifying lens and a macro lens. :icondrool

Video was shot using Nokia N8 phone. At those scenes, where object is near, I used magnifying lens in order to get focus near. Normally video mode supports only "far away" focus. I used digital zoom at most of the scenes as I prefer close(r) up shot to wide angle shots. Video was edited using N8's own video editor application.

Video was shot at Suolijärvi Lake, Tampere, Finland

Video was shot using Nokia N8 phone. At close up scenes a Maped 75mm magnifying glass was attached to the phone in order to have near focus. Video was edited using N8's own video editor application. I decided to leave original ambient sound although the wind was blowing hard at a time and did some nasty sounds.

Video was shot at Ratina area, Tampere Finland.

Video was shot with Nokia N8 at Vehmainen Tampere, Finland. At some scenes where I needed close focus I used still 75mm Maped magnifying glass in front of N8.

This video is a compilation of different moods from various lake shores - from dawn to dusk. I decided to leave original ambient sound although at some scene changes the sound changes abruptly. Also some nice sunset scenes would be better with birds singing at background instead of hearing loud traffic noice. But what the heck, we live in an imperfect world.

The shots include lakes from Kangasala (Ukkijärvi, Vesijärvi from Vesanniemi, Kirkkojärvi ) and from Tampere ( Kaukajärvi)
VIdeo was edited using Nokia N8 phone's own video editor application.

Video shot, edited and uploaded using Nokia N8. Thanks to dreamSTATE for another great ambient track "transience"!

Video shot with Nokia N8 phone. Phone was attached to Garmin Nuvi's holder with rubber bands to get stedy video.

Video was shot near Kangasala, Finland. The first scene was from Heponiementie and the other from Raikuntie

^^ that is pretty cool.. i have to try some of those "tricks" myself

So over thanksgiving weekend, I had to take tons of photos and videos, and I really like how easy it is to share media with the N8, no additional software required, just simple standard plug and play operation :eusa_clap I actually used the USB on the GO thing and it works great.. transfered some photos to a friend's flash drive.

some new photos

Looks like a very, very nice phone here. I'm quite a Nokia-guy (although Sony attracts me too) because I want my phones to be phones, not only shiny softwares bits with no battery life and poor call quality...

So far I'm extremely pleased with my 5530XM, your N8 is in a entirely different league though...:usa7uh:

^^Holy crap those are awesome. BTW...do u have Tmobile?

Thanks man!

I have AT&T, and since this is an unlocked phone, I don't have to pay $30 for data, I use their "dumb" phone data plan which is $15 ;) Overall I am pretty happy with ATT, very few drop calls and good data speeds. I friend of mine just got one and he is on T-mobile.. the phone has 5 3g radio bands including the US t-mobile 1700 mhz so it works

one more .. the Californian coast is so pretty.. you could just point your camera in any direction and you have a good photo

Wow! Breathtakingly beautiful pics  So are you a professional photographer or something? :D

It's a great indication of technological progress that your pic - which you took using your phone - is of a much better quality than the pic I took of the same tree with a 'proper' camera 14 years ago. :D
