Re: Nhl

:t-cheers:

Diehard Oilers & Habs fan here! :usa7uh:

I imagine you are a Sens fan? I just hope you're not one of them Leafs lovers?! ;)

P.S. Don't forget to vote for the all-stars!

Re: Nhl

I grew up in Cambridge, ON (it's about an hour west of Toronto). I'm a die-hard Leafs fan.

I moved to Ottawa a few months ago...

Re: Nhl

When it's on TV, I enjoy watching it even though I don't know the rules. Body checking looks like fun. :D

Re: Nhl

I watch Finland's games in the World Championships and the Olympics on TV... that's about it. I do keep an eye on how the local team is doing, though.

Re: Nhl

Also follow casually what's going on. Mainly interested in Montreal Canadiens, Ducks and Stars. Also still follow what's going on in the Finnish league.

I think I'm one of a few Canadians who does not like hockey. In fact, I absolutely hate it. I only watch Olympic hockey.

Seriously, I absolutely hate the Toronto Maple Leafs. They are so overrated and their meagre achievements still overshadow all the other sports in the city. Perhaps I hate hockey because I was never encouraged to play it due to its violence.

Sounds like you hate the Leafs more than the sport of hockey... ;)

I love hockey, but I don't expect that everyone else will, as well (even if they are Canadian).

As for your comment about the Leafs...well, that's what being a fan is all about. You follow your team even if they're dead last. There is no shortage of cities where the fans only follow their team if they're doing well. I can't say I agree with that, myself.

Also, which teams are the Leafs "overshadowing?"

The Raptors (NBA)? They've done nothing since their inception.

The Rock (a pro lacrosse team for those that don't know)? They seem to get enough fans to their games (I've seen a full arena when I've gone). Sure, there are probably a lot of people living in Toronto that have no idea that the Rock have won as many championships as they have (they've won 5 championships since 1999)...I'm not sure how the Leafs can be blamed for that.

The Blue Jays (MLB)? They still have a decent following, but it has fallen off since they won back-to-back World Series in 1992 & 1993, when their attendance numbers peaked. But, being realistic, baseball hasn't been a favourite of Canadians, anyway (look at the former Expos).

What the Leafs have done is create a very successful business...for that, they should be lauded. Don't get me wrong...this same successful business model makes it very difficult to get tickets to see them, as a very large portion (about 70%, I think) is covered by corporate season ticket holders. Also, as a fan, I'm really liking that the team is owned by the Ontario Teacher's Union...a group that is definitely more concerned with making money than having a successful team. But, that's a whole other discussion...

I cant skate but I love watching hockey. Go Leafs Go! they suck though. one day they will win the cup and I would love to see the parade that will go down younge street.

No matter where I am in the world, I will stop whatever I am doing to attend the festivities...

So, today is Trade Deadline Day in the NHL.

So far, there's not been much action & I get the feeling (from the lack of rumours, anyway) that it might not get any busier...

Not a blockbuster trade, but Gary Roberts is off for Pittsburgh.

Imagine the work ethic and leadership skills he'll be able to instill into the likes of Crosby and Staal.

Hmmm...Biron is off to the Flyers (for an, as yet, undisclosed draft pick)...

And, the Sabres have replaced him with Ty Conklin.

Okay...I stand corrected on how quiet today will be...

The Penguins have picked up Georges Laraque...they sorely needed an enforcer. Look out for them in the playoffs...

And, the Blues sent Guerin (for a first rounder) to the Sharks...
