wLet's be real, every BMW is a little M, even if it's just in the soul.

AMG however, is the opposite of a Mercedes. AMG is Mercedes trying to be BMW.

M'eh, I could go on for paragraphs about what M is, isn't, should be and shouldn't be, but to a point I agree with you - but as far as I'm concerned, these days they're both just badges to leverage image for more of their customers money. AMG was a tuning company - to be an AMG you just need the base car to be tuned, it didn't even have to be a Mercedes! M was Motorsport - for me that has different connotations, it's a higher bar to reach, and not necessarily one that's evident in all M models, though yes, sometimes evident through BMW's range, whether M or not.

I don't believe 206 gen will have a V8 unless they plan on extending the life cycle with a 2nd facelift instead of new gen.

The 2024 CLE63 with the M139 P3 hybrid was binned because of the C63se failure in the market.

So it wouldn’t make sense for the FL CLE63 to now have a V8 but not the FL C63/E63.

There’s literally no indication of it though, not even a single prototype. V8 CLE prototypes have been running around for a while now but no C63 in sight. I think 53 will be the top of the line, just like the article says. It also makes sense since GLC didn’t get the V8 either.

2027 will tell all. There is complete silence right now and that says it all imo. The car doesn’t need a second facelift to get a V8.

At this point I’m having a hard time believing that the current gen 63 will get a V8. Perhaps next generation will. Or like you said, they might surprise everyone, but for some reason I just don’t see that happening.

The next C will be in the showroom if we don't see any spy shots like.....yesterday. Testing takes an awful long time, just look at the CLE V8 prototypes.

Who said that would happen? The next C is year off the current one is just now about to get a facelift. They aren’t operating on what you think their schedule should be.

I'm also.sceptical but AMG has surprised us with the CLE63 Mythos and the GT coupe Black Series prototypes only were shown in a short period so it would be quite funny if we saw some C63 and E63 model mules testing next year.

The E class FL is due next year but that too has not been seen at all testing.

They do have that brand new test center with proving grounds, so I imagine they have the ability to do lots of testing without anyone lurking behind a tree.

Still doesn't change the fact that after all that they still have to do some serious public road testing, which will easily take a year if not longer.

I would wager if there are C and E63 s, we won't see them till MY28. Which would require test mules appearing from the back end of 26 or early 27

Logic dictates that there won't be a C63. First, Mercedes won't invest twice in the same car for a single generation, especially since they already lost a ton of money on the first one. Second, they're unlikely to do it considering the W206 was introduced in 2021, so making a new V8 to sell only during the last one or two years of the cycle doesn't make any business sense. Third, and most obviously, there are no mules and the LCI is close to being launched.

The same premise applies to the E63: limiting it to only half its life cycle won't be economically viable, but in this case, it has a slightly higher probability of becoming a reality.

What's clear is that in both cases, Mercedes missed the boat.

I don't disagree with that. But theres no telling how long the W206 and 214 generations will live for, given that the original plan was probably for them to be 100% dead and gone by 2030. Obviously that's not happening any more. But I don't think they'll spin up a W207 and W215 in time.

We'll see I guess. But you are right that the boat has mostly been missed. Thankfully for enthusiasts there will be no shortage of V8 powered AMG models. Maybe they'll put a bit more into the inline 6 and make it more competitive with the EA839TT and S58.

They will probably and most likely live their original generation, and then get an extensive facelift with a new model code W207 like what BMW does with the G20 --> G50. And indeed for the W207 a mild hybrid V8 could just be a thing, considering they're going to sell vast amounts of EV C classes in the coming years which will lower the average CO2 like a little creek in the summer.

Fascinating how logic and speculation are spun. Gotta love it. In one sentence they have advanced testing that doesn’t require and much time and then the next they need a specific amount of time for testing. A new V8 for an old car, no new investment will be made. Makes sense when the current strategy failed, you should just stay the course. But hey you can completely change course on a car the CLE by ditching the completed 4-cylinder AMG for a V8 but it wouldn’t make sense to do the same in a higher volume sedan that sits on the same platform. New engines for half a model life cycle has obviously never been done before by Mercedes. I mean you literally can’t make this shit up.
