I don't think so. The 3Series/M3/M4 is BMWs halo model. That has the biggest market for Alpina variants.
Worth a consideration is that BMW Individual has been progressively expanding their "personalization" catalogue. This encompasses 3 and 5 series vehicles. And this may have left corporate decision-makers contemplating whether expanding the "new, wholly owned" ALPINA into the 5er and sub-5er segments could constitute a dilution of the market positioning ALPINA has now endeavored to focus on. The "exclusivity" of the new ALPINA may simply be more appropriately conveyed in top-end rather than executive vehicle segments.
