Yet again Autobild has come up with renderings of forthcoming models. This time the vehicles in question are these MPVs from Volkswagen, the Touran and its bigger sister the Sharan.

Volkswagen’s facelifted Touran has barely been out a year, but CAR has already spied the replacement car testing in Germany. The new car is being rushed in because the current Touran - and the Mk5 Golf on which it's based - is expensive for VW to build. The Mk6 Golf and Mk2 Touran will solve that issue, with fewer variants and a design optimised to make production quicker and cheaper.
The Mk 6 Golf we spied last year bore a striking resemblance to the current Mk5, and judging by these pictures the Touran is following in the same vein. Both the new Golf and Touran are thought to be based on the current platform. While they'll each be updated for the new cars, the silhouettes will remain much the same.
The front of the new Touran should be more shapely though, with sharper Eos-style lights. We also expect the Touran to have a few hints of the Up concept in it, as a company official confirmed to CAR that the little family of concepts preview VW’s future design language. The Up has also enjoyed the best reception of any VW concept car in recent years, so they’d be daft to ignore such a response.

Omg, can't belive that THAT thing is a Sharan ...
Well designwise it looks 1000000 times better than MK I

Soon we will see the new car...

Because the title is only "New Touran and Sharan" without reference to a special generation I think it's ok to use this discussion for the next generation too.

2015 Volkswagen Touran Rendered

The next generation VW Touran is already under development, using the platform and the lessons learned from the Golf 7. With prototype work beginning in May, we probably have until the middle part of 2015 until it goes on sale, but these renderings can give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

They were made by Theophilus Chin by combining elements from the Golf Sportsvan with other models. The outcome is not terribly exciting, but any current Touran owner probably dreams of having LED taillights or the latest generation nav system.

Maybe you're looking to trade in your old MPV for a new one or maybe the family just got bigger and you're looking to upgrade from a compact – there are a lot of reasons to wait for the new Touran another year.

First of all, it's based on the MQB platform and will come with a number of efficient diesel engines. These will include a 120 hp 1.6 TDI diesel and different versions of the 2.0 TDI with 150 and 190 hp. TSI petrol engines ranging from a 1.2 to a 2-liter will be available, together with a natural gas model that uses a 1.4-liter.

Pretty much any big boy toy you can think of will be available as an option. To name but a few, you'll be able to order Park Assist, where the car takes control of the steering and uses sensors to guide itself into a spot. Active safety system will also be an integral part, demanded by Euro NCAP and the IIHS in order to receive the top safety ratings.

Of course, if the sober German design of a bloated Golf doesn't flip your boat, you can alway choose the new Citroen C4 Picasso instead.

I'm a current Touran owner, little secret, I'm not dreaming of LED taillights. What I think would be a great big boy toy idea is making the Touran available with 4motion.

Next generation Volkswagen Touran keeps a full body camo in latest spy shots
Could debut in Geneva

The next generation Volkswagen Touran has been spied yet again stubbornly wearing a full body camouflage.

Even though some are suggesting the new compact MPV will debut in Geneva in less than two weeks, the spotted prototype still had a full disguise which could indicate the official reveal will in fact occur in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This makes sense since Volkswagen will bring to next month's Geneva show the bigger Sharan facelift so there’s no point of showcasing both of them.

Despite the heavy amount of camo, it's not that hard to imagine how the new Touran will look like since it will probably boast a more angular design to enable a sharper styling while maintaining the boxy shape to grant a spacious and versatile interior cabin, crucial for a people carrier.

More importantly, the all-new Volkswagen Touran will ride on the MQB platform and as a consequence it should drop around 100 kg (220 lbs). Engine lineup will be sourced from the Golf so expect the familiar array of turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, with some of them paired to an optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

Volkswagen could be cooking up a Cross/Alltrack Touran with an increased ride height, standard AWD and plastic body cladding. However, this derivative won't be available from day one so it will join the range likely in 2016, at the earliest.

2015 Volkswagen Touran unveiled with increased proportions
Longer and more spacious

Volkswagen has finally unveiled the all-new Touran which will receive its public debut at next week's Geneva Motor Show.

As expected, the styling has been sharpened up while maintaining the boxy shape you would expect from an MPV. The mid-size people carrier has grown as it is 130mm longer than its predecessor and 113mm of the added length is in the wheelbase to grant a more spacious interior cabin available in both five- and seven-seat configurations. Volkswagen says the new Touran has the biggest cargo capacity (up by 48 liters to 1,040 liters) in the segment thanks to a new folding seat arrangement which enables a flat floor and a 1,980-liter capacity necessary when carrying voluminous cargo.

The significantly more upscale interior comes with Volkswagen's latest infotainment systems providing support for Google's Android Auto and Apple's Car Play.

Riding on the MQB platform, the overhauled Touran has lost 62 kg (136 lbs) despite being larger than the old model. It will be available with an assortment of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines, kicking off with a 110 HP 1.2 TSI, followed by a 150 HP 1.4 TSI, 180 HP 1.8 TSI along with a 110 HP 1.6 TDI and a couple of 2.0 TDIs rated at 150 HP and 190 HP.

On the safety side, there's a wide variety of systems including adaptive cruise control, automatic post-collision braking assistant, pre-crash proactive occupant protection and others as well.

The 2015 Volkswagen Touran will be showcased alongside the larger Sharan facelift from March 3 at the 85th Geneva Motor Show. Order books will open this summer, with deliveries kicking off in the second half of the year.

Take that BMW this is how you build an MPV, not that stupid thing you think is an MPV.

I only have one gripe, VW should have put sliding doors on it. Numerous times in carparks we wished for sliding doors when loading and unloading kids, Ford nailed this with the C Max.

The BMW really is a messy design, the VW is crisp and sharp, nicely detailed without all the silly bits BMW has added to their family box on wheels.

I agree with you completely. As a BMW owner and - have to admit - a fan too, I find nothing compelling or appealing in the 2er GT to choose it over the sharper, cleaner looking Touran. I even find the VW's interior more attractive (I can't stand the look of the 2er AT/GT's dashboard) and modern.

And yet, the inexplicable thing is that I'm seeing heaps of newly registered 2er ATs on the road but I will put this down to the early-adopter honeymoon period for now. Let's see if the 2er vans retain their long-term commercial appeal.
