but I have to say I'm pretty damn impressed about the features. I mean, Clarkson didn't even make fun about any of them. That must mean something.

lOl, I can agree with that! The S550 is loaded. I didn`t know this car was the first car in the world equiped with a digital tv tuner. I also like the fact that the S-Class owner has fewer heart beats than the competition, Jeremy said
"you will live longer with the S-Class".;)

Yea, it's not just a car, it's healthy for you!

So no one go to the gym, buy an S class and just go driving, right!:)

What an excellent review. The car looks fantastic! :icondrool

The S must really be something special because even Jeremy didn't have anything to whinge about.

He did say that he didn't like the interior!

He wanted it to look like his living room!:D

Really? I must have missed it, busy whiping up my drool. :icondrool

Im anxiously looking forward to the comparisons by non-german magazines. Or maybe this time the likes of CAR etc. wont even bother...because the outcome is so predictable. ;)

At least it was just an S280.

Yeah...but even so...hacking up the innocent and good shape S-Class W140 was a sad thing to watch.:crying6cc. The car stood up pretty well the cocnrete weight and even managed to go around the Hammerhead without crashing. Oh well...at least it was fun to watch Hammond and May sliding all over the place while the interior was falling apart.

The S280 never was a performance car. Weighing 2 tons, it's only able of 0 to 60 Mph in 11 Seconds. So you can imagine how it would perform with another 2 tons of cement. The "S-Cottage-Class" now weighing 4 tons did 0 to 60 Mph in 35 Seconds. Hey! That's not bad for a cottage!:D

Just watched the whole video (w/ out sound :t-banghea ), damm is that a nice freak'n car dude!!! I'd love to have one, even more encouraging watching Clarkson throwing the damm thing around the track... how much fun that must be, and nice I know you can do it. MB's may not be such bad corner munchers afterall. I must drive a W221... penciling in for next weekend.:D

I watched the video where they destroy the W140 while I got a kick out of it, it kind of made me mad that they would do that to the perfectly good S. Anyway, that was the first time I saw this show. It's really good. I the proceeded to watch every clip on youtube.com. It's a great show. Wish we had something like that here in the US.

Someone care to explain this bit on the demolition of a "perfectly good" W140???

An excellent review, Clarkson was clearly very impressed and said all the tech was easy to use .....which is something some other reviewers have had different opinions about. Clarkson is a Mercedes fan, but I think he was being completely objective ......the S class is such a brilliant car ...how could he not be positive about it.

One thing though, Jeremy Clarkson was extremely critical of the M5's iDrive and all the menus one must scroll through just to change a radio station etc., he didn't find any such fault with the S class.

Of course, it would be a shame if MB camed with "like-BMW's-iDrive-complicated" system after so many years of developing it.

:t-cheers:

Im not saying the M-drive is the easiest thing but Jeremy was obviosly over-reacting and exaggerate just for the show. Just look at Tiff, he used it without any problems at all and wasnt complaining at all. Neither did I when I tried it. People shouldnt take everything Jeremy says so seriously. Its an entertaining show.

I agree, my above post was sarcastic. Simply, try the iDrive few time and you'll get used to it and you won't complain!

yep gotta agree..me and my cousine drove to the IAA in his 530i and it doesent take long to adopt to the system.. so i dont know what ppl are bitchin about.. but then again i could understand if some old dude thats never been near a computer finds it hard.. but bad luck for those dudes.. you need to keep up with the technology.. otherwise you are doomed..haha

PS
Ive tried the new command to..i dont find it much easier to use than the i drive..it looks better though..and the menues make a little more sense..
lets say that for me to master the i drive takes 7mins..and the command 4mins..
