928 New Porsche GT Coupe - 928 Successor?

The Porsche 928 is a front-engine, water-cooled grand touring 2+2 hatchback coupe manufactured and marketed by Porsche AG from 1977 to 1995 — across a single generation with an intermediate facelift.
Re: New Porsche GT coupe

No, It's not going to be that expensive. Porsche has invested huge amounts of money in whole project and platform and intend to get return on investment. Along with the Cayenne it will become on of their bread and butter. There is a chance though that the top of the ragne stretches into Quattroporte and Rapid prices.

Interesting. So it will be a volume car with a large range of pricing, just like what other German manufacturers are doing. This car is going to be so popular there won't be any exclusivity to talk about IMO.

Porsche is predicting to sell 20 000 Panameras annually. The will likely have share some engines with the Cayenne. Though it is not confirmed yet that it will come in V6, V8, V10/V8 Turbo flavours. Don't rule out a hybrid engine either.

More on the Porsche 928 successor

While Porsche is trying to take over the European automotive arena by gobbling up more and more shares of VW, it also has to keep its eye on the competition and continue to come up with killer products. The concept that seems closest to production right now is the four-door Panamera, which should arrive by 2009. The issue with a front-engine Porsche sedan is that it has nothing else with which to share its platform, unless the hot as hell 928 comes back to life.

We told you last year that the 928 would share about 60% of its parts with the Panamera, and production would begin around 2011. Since both vehicles will be more GT than sports car, the Bentley Continental GT seems like a natural corporate part donor, though powertrains are likely to be exclusive between the two brands. The GT coupe market has been ablaze of late, with entries like the V8 Vantage, Continental GT, and M6 winning praise and buyers, so we can't see Porsche sitting on the sidelines for long. Besides, heavily disguised Porsche mules have been seen testing, so it seems as though the 928 is close to a done deal.

Re: New Porsche GT coupe

Great post siko:emthup:

Anyway I don`t too much care for this latest ps. Too much 911 going on there. The successer to the 928 should have a more distictive more upscale look like the 928 of yore. I like this ps a little better.

Wow, it takes major balls to jump something with such a high center of gravity!

Re: New Porsche GT Coupe - 928 Successor ?

Interesting, it does seem like it has very long hood...

Thanks for posting this, Dom! :usa7uh:

Hell yeah!! Porsche needs this car, a upscale Porsche between the 911 and CGT with very powerful NA engine and exclusive interior.

Don't forget the upcoming SLC (700HP lightweight SL LCI with fixed metal roof), and upcoming BMW new Z8/9.

Re: New Porsche GT Coupe - 928 Successor ?

Well you knew it had to happen. I can't see Porsche using the Panamera platform for just one vehicle. The cut down version will be a new coupe.

Re: New Porsche GT Coupe - 928 Successor ?

This thing has an even longer rear overhang than the 911. Are we sure this is the front-engined GT coupe? Could it not be the next gen 911 prototype..?

A next gen 911 rolling on the roads before the face lift has even been launched would be devastating. A new 911 is 3-4 years away.

To save dough the GT coupe will share a lot of components with the Panamera, especially the front engine-RWD platform.:)

Porsche GT Coupe: New spy shots?

Don't trust your eyes: this flying Porsche Cayenne is said to be a test mule for the rumored Porsche GT Coupe.

We still don’t know for sure, but this prototype is hammering around the “Ring” with a speed that makes even Michael Schumacher jealous. They are actually one of the fastest cars around the Nürburgring .And the noise they are making, absolutely great, it makes the hairs in your neck raise. At first, Porsche only had 2 of these mules, but now you can get it in almost every colour. We have seen it in gold, black, blue, green and red. Also, we now know a little more then before. First, these mules are rear-wheel-drive only. Second, they are built as light way cars with no power windows and central-looking, plastic windows in the rear doors and backwards. Third, in normal cases the tires of a SUV are as wide in the front as in the back. But on this mule we can clearly see that’s not the case. The rear tires are much wider.Porsche GT Coupe: New spy shots? - The German Car Blog

Re: New Porsche GT Coupe - 928 Successor ?

I don’t think they know exactly what is really hiding under that Cayenne’s buddy. It is confusing. :eusa_doh:

Re: New Porsche GT Coupe - 928 Successor ?

THIS IS NOT 928! :t-crazy2:

C'mon. They will use modified Panamera platform for 928. This thing in pics is definitely an SUV. Most probably the mule is hiding Mk2 Cayenne platform.

Re: New Porsche GT Coupe - 928 Successor ?

This makes no point. There were many stories about unusual Porsche mules but this is the weirdest to me.

I think Eni is right, they're probably testing the new Cayenne platform...

Word on the street is that this demon for a test mule isn't the 997 successor but a two door coupe based on the Panamera platform that is using the 997 body as disguise.
