New Mercedes-Benz 4.7 Twin-Turbo V8 and New 3.5 V6

If I'm not mistaken Merc do have a 3L v6 that they could developed (sticking on turbos) like BMW did. And it's not about copying but rather progression. Could some do a comparative power out put between the two engines (V8 MERC and BMW).

BMW has 407hp and 600 NM for the standard V8 and 449 hp and 650 NM for the performance pack.

Mercedes has 435 hp and 705 NM for its brand new V8.

The S550 this fall will have more power and torque than the W220 S600 did back when it was first introduced. The torque figure is the same for the old E55 AMG. Yikes.

I can't wait for the C-Class Coupe with this new V6.

Now what about the existing 3L V6 in the C300 and SLK300? They need about 265hp now.

Excellent job MB the point here i think is more econemy from Merc it would have been nice to get a turbo v6 aswell.

MB now needs a twin turbo 350 diesel and a super V12 for the new S and Sl

anyone can tell me the kilowats on these two engines.

WOW, thats impressive. Well done Merc. Oh, thanks Sony.:usa7uh:

Where the hell is the official press release!?

I hate the SL may not get new the new V8 until the new model is released in 2012!

The V6 will get turbos at one stage or another guaranteed!

The architecture between the v6 and v8 is undoubtedly common.

The new V8 with that massive 700nm torque will be a tire and gearbox shredder :D In any case, with currently outstanding figures of CL and S class 0-100km/h in 5.4s, this engine will never feel underpowered. Not that current feels so. What i am concerned is AMG department, as V8's figures are practically same as the old 55 kompressor, it will be considered pure mindless power driven by holywood :)

We should be seeing the facelifted coupe officially very soon...

Oh deary me! The torque figure seems like something out of AMG, not a mainstream V8. And 24% better fuel economy for the V6 is pretty darn good. M-B, color me impressed.

EDIT: can someone confirm if they both share the same 60 degrees architecture...

It'll be interesting if the S-Coupe is revealed very soon, now that the new engines have been revealed. Even though Goodwood is in early July, MB might give the S-Coupe an early release of pics and info.

I was hoping the V6 would have more then low 306 since other will no doubt be moving up to 330+ so MB will have to lay catchup again.

That said, I seriously hope that V6 will be in the C by next year (in Canada) when I'll be shopping for a new car.

I'm already loving the stupid comments on the "not impressive" 306-hp V6. :t-crazy2:

Well it sort of is unimpressive in the sense that they are catching up more then anything.

Well if they are getting this figure and using LESS fuel than the competition, I think its fine for now. How does it's fuel efficiency compare?

There is no doubt about it, this engine will get turbos sooner or later.

The torque amount from the 4.7 Lt. twin turbo V8 is immense but I cannot say the same thing for bhp.

Naturally aspirated 4.0Lt. engines these days can reach +400bhp . (Most notable example: S65B40 engine on an BMW M3).

The comparison is baseless and invalid. The M3 V8 is a screamer, high-rpm hp generator, not a torque maker. The new Mercedes 4.7L V8 is a turbo for lower revs, low consumption and for effortless torque.

The 4.7L V8 here is going into a luxury sedan, not a sports coupe, torque is what it is designed for and 435hp is more than enough.

Two different engine concepts. The Mercedes engine that most compares to the M3 V8 is the 6.2L AMG V8, and even then torque as well as hp is the emphasis, not reach for the sky, per liter hp.

It was about time to see those new engines... Now MB hurry-up to put them in all your cars!!

The V8 seems like a piece of art... But I'm surprised MB didn't go the downsizing, turbo-ing route especially with the N/A V6.

Now we have to wait to see if those engines really deliver, especially in terms of consumption, but I'm confident: MB took teir time...
