Okay, I discovered an intersting comparison between the coming V8 M3 and R8 around the ring. If you look at the two videos:

and

You will notice that the two cars are doing the same section of the ring. So here is what you got to do: Open the two windows side by side with the two videos, play one and pause as soon as the car becomes visible. Play the other and pause that one too. You have to give one car a small head start (since you can't unpause the two videos at the same time). Now unpause both as simltaneously as possible - it takes practice. You can do a pretty good comparison between the two this way.

I know it is not scientific, but after innumerous tries, I hardly notice any diffrence between the two around that section.

BTW what is the silver car behind the R8? it is keeping up with R8 pretty well. -sunny

Hey sunny...I don't want to sound like an ass and please don't take this the wrong way. There is just no way you can compare these cars in their testing phase. Sure you can get some idea but there cars are not being tested to their full potention right now simply because these are prototypes are only being tested for faults/breakdowns and not their true performance.

These two videos are cool to watch side by side and gives you the most minute of glimps to their true potential but thats it. All this truly does for me is makes me want to see these cars being pushed when they are 100% ready.

Thanks for the vids. :t-cheers:

What makes you say that? The reason testers come to the Ring is to test their performance, while desert testing and winter testing is more tuned for endurance.

You'd be surprised how close these cars are to the real thing.

I don't know how close these cars are to the real thing but the reason I say that they are not 100% is because we still don't know when they're coming out so right now they could still be tuning the suspension or the getting the right wheel/tryre size/tyres and the other reason I say that is because since the cars still have camo on them it takes away from their aerodynamic efficiency and we all know how much of a difference that can make...so until the camo is completely off and we have a press release, those are not 100%

that's my reasoning or at least that's how I would run the show if I was the project leader for those cars.:t-cheers:

Like I said it is by no means defnitve answer on which car is faster or slower, just an anecdotal idea how they compare. And, I agree, obviously the cars are not 100% complete, hence the testing, but then again both cars are very near their release dates, so it is not like they are going to gain big jump in performance between now and release.

Again, just an anecdotal comparison between the two, so fan boys, please don't get your underwear in a knot over this. :t-cheers:

BTW, I think it bodes well for the M3, if it can keep up with a dedicated sports car like R8.
