MKS New Lincoln MKS

I can't tell you how sick I am of seeing vehicles with overcooked grills. Hate that fad.

That being said, the vehicle looks a hell of a lot better than previous attempts by Lincoln.

Nice effort, Lincoln is getting serious about his stay in ground ;)...!

A few live shots from the L.A. Autoshow floor:

Ford's mullet-man, Mark Fields, strode onto the stage to introduce the 2009 Lincoln MKS... and promptly called it "MKX." Oooops.

The MKS, which is what's shown here, is intended to be Lincoln's flagship, competing with the Lexus GS, Cadillac STS, and Acura RL.

Design chief Peter Horbury took the stage to point out some of the Lincoln cues they stole from previous Lincolns. The front end is distinctly Lincoln, and the overall look is clean and understated, with perhaps too many hints of Lexus GS in the profile.

You've seen the number keypad that Ford uses on many of its cars, right? The MKS does this idea one better--there's an invisible keypad in the B-pillar that lights up when you wave your hand over it. Pretty slick.

In introducing this feature, Horbury gave a not-subtle-at-all jab to OnStar: "There's no need to put a satellite into space and have operators standing by just to unlock your doors." Cheeky.

Interesting historical tidbit: the leather for the MKS' seats is said to be from the same Scottish supplier that made the leather for the Model T.

It looks like the MKS will be very-well equipped and competitively priced. It starts at $37,985 and tops out at $48,120 for the fully loaded AWD version.

They just never seem to get it right. The panel gaps between the glove box and the side of the dashboard is not really aligned, same with the dashboard panel below the steering wheel. You can see there is a noticable gap between the panel and the center console.

Pardon me, but is this car based on the new Jag XF? Looks pretty darn similar.

No this car is Volvo based. It does have some Jaguar overtones to the interior though. I'm sure Lincoln took all the inspiration from Jaguar they could, but the chassis is Volvo F/AWD through and through.

Edit: It does have some Jaguar overtones...not "doesn't".

Thanks mate. I have to say it's the best American car I've seen to date.

Yes is one of our better efforts, at least on paper. The interior in particular is a revelation for a Lincoln. You can see some of Lincoln's other gawd-awful interiors in some of earlier post in this thread.

I corrected my post. I meant to say that it "does" have some Jaguar overtones in the interior, not that it "doesn't".

Yup I did see those truck Lincoln interiors, plus the square gauges. I'm glad Lincoln is slowly finding its way back. I now always have a good impression of American cars because last year at NYC I took a Lincoln taxi to the airport and the ride and engine was just so brilliant. Even though it's an old model.

Yup, I read it as "does". :usa7uh:

Re: Lincoln MKS @ 2007 LA Auto Show

I couldn't believe this gauge cluster. It is right out of my grandma's 1970's Lincoln. Ridiculous for 2008.

M

Cool, your grandma has a '70s Lincoln, Merc1? I love those big, thirsty old Lincolns. Which model does she have?

I actually like the '70s features. When I first saw the MKX SUV, I thought the front looked great because it has a similar grille to the '64 Continental.

Well she passed some years ago so I'm not exactly sure which model it was. I just remember being a kid and literaly getting lost inside of this huge car. It had those power headlight covers too. I'll have to ask around to find out what model it was.

It's about some time those guys in Dearborn grew some brass balls!

In one fell swoop Lincoln is, quite possibly, relevant. This is a very good looking car, and even sports an interior I could live with.

I think Ford was wise to steal from all the right cars for this one. The Mazerati influence on the backside is a great touch.
