A straightforward line-up with clear, mid-market price positioning*. New Lancia Ypsilon tells four stories: drivability, in terms of handling, agility, comfort, and driving pleasure; state-of-the-art technology, always simple and intuitive, in perfect Lancia style, in the name of onboard well-being, safety, and connectivity; electrification, with a car whose 100% electric version can guarantee outstanding performance, the utmost efficiency, and best-in-class range and charging times; and finally the elegance typical of the most beautiful Lancia cars ever, with a timeless style, inspired by the past and as the same time contemporary. 1 car, 4 statements!” stated Luca Napolitano, Lancia brand CEO.
Well-being and driving pleasure for absolute premiumness
The New Lancia Ypsilon is a smart city car that stands out in the urban environment for its ease of driving and handling: agile in the city but also lots of fun on the twists and turns on a hill. To pass this test, Lancia based its work on the multienergy Common Modular Platform (CMP), a segment-leading modular facility perfect for both full-electric motors and hybrid engines. The design and production team has worked to obtain a car that is agile, dynamic, can maintain remarkable grip and stability on the road, and is at the same time equipped with great comfort, guaranteeing a level of absolute premiumness.
Work has focused on four main areas: onboard well-being, sound quality, production quality, and driving pleasure. In terms of onboard well-being, a specific soundproofing package has been developed to create a relaxing and soundproof environment, regardless of road surface conditions and the car’s speed. A specific set of gaskets has also been developed for the doors, to improve the sound quality when they are closed, as well as a new design for the handles to convey a tangible and extensive feeling of robustness. As for production quality, investment has been made in staff training, dedicated equipment and processes, to achieve a level of competition typical of a premium brand and to guarantee the end customer the best quality currently available on the market.
In addition to these interventions, attention has been paid to driving pleasure: the team has widened the wheel track by 24 mm, to ensure better weight distribution and handling for the new model. The steering system has also been calibrated for the utmost driving precision; last but not least, work has been done to obtain a specific setup for the suspension, more dynamic but never too stiff.
Effortless Technology for a Best-in-Class City Car
The New Lancia Ypsilon embodies the brand's vision in terms of technology and infotainment, partly down to a series of best-in-class features. The model includes the highest tech specs in the segment yet remains easy to use: Lancia technology is effortless and intuitive, to facilitate the customer in-car experience, welcoming them in and making them “feel at home”, wherever they are.
The pillar of this concept is S.A.L.A., a virtual and intelligent interface that includes the essential parameters to create a comfortable driving experience, in perfect Lancia style. In Italian, SALA means ‘living room’, but in this case it stands for Sound Air Light Augmentation, an infotainment system that brings together the audio, climate control and lighting functions. The driver and passengers can therefore adjust the interior environment at the mere touch of a button.
The car’s audio system was specially created by a Lancia sound designer. The air conditioning system is fitted with a high-efficiency filter that can remove up to 99% of harmful particles, for a healthier and more comfortable passenger compartment. The in-car lighting can be fully customized by merely tapping the display, to create an exclusive atmosphere in combination with the ambient lighting function.
The S.A.L.A. system means the New Lancia Ypsilon ‘living room’ can adapt to the mood at the time, immediately changing the music, air, and light inside the passenger compartment.
And the ‘living room’ concept is also expressed through other in-car components, such as the adjustable, massaging, and heated electric seats, turned into veritable armchairs. All this is made even more engaging by the great acoustic comfort of the passenger compartment, to maximize in-car well-being.
The experience aboard the New Lancia Ypsilon is made even more relaxing by its wide range of equipment. The standout features are the keyless entry and start system and parking assist, consisting of cameras with a 180° view and front and rear sensors to facilitate maneuvers and a dual screen, the largest display in the category with a total diagonal of 20.5”, and a 10.25” digital instrument panel/radio that can be customized in terms of both layout and colors.
S.A.L.A. also comes with Bluetooth Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, a wireless phone charger, and three USB-C ports, for those who can’t tear themselves away from their personal device. The infotainment system is complemented by S.A.L.A. HUB, the virtual assistant that improves the connection between car and driver, emphasizing the high-tech nature of the car. Finally, to complete the driving experience, the New Lancia Ypsilon is equipped with Level 2 Autonomous Driving as standard, to travel out of town in greater safety and to simplify the driving experience, so Lancia customers can fully enjoy the in-car environment. Level 2 Autonomous Driving automatically adjusts cruising speed and trajectory, using Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering. Level 2 Autonomous Driving, which can be activated between 30 and 150 km/h, includes Traffic Jam Assist with Stop&Go function, to restart the car automatically when stuck in traffic, for a more comfortable drive.
Two segment-leading powertrains
In its full-electric version, the New Lancia Ypsilon is the first 100% electric vehicle for a brand whose clear and ambitious electrification strategy is proceeding in line with the Stellantis “Dare Forward” strategic plan. The model represents entry into the era of electric mobility, embodying its vision in terms of range, charging time and efficiency for market-leading performance.
With a 156-hp/115-kW power unit and a 51-kWh battery, making it best-in-class in the premium hatchback B-segment, the New Ypsilon boasts a range of up to 403 km* in the WLTP combined cycle – rising to over 500 in the city, with fast charging in 24 minutes (from 20% to 80%) or enough for 100 km in 10 minutes. These features mean the electric version can guarantee responsiveness, kick and driving pleasure, making it the ideal car for customers who respect the environment and are interested in easy access to restricted traffic areas, those seeking greater driving comfort and the convenience of home charging, using renewable sources such as solar or wind energy. The car’s fuel consumption stands between 14.3 and 14.6 kWh per 100 km, in line with the performance of the best competitor in the entire electric vehicle market.
The specifications of the MHEV version also stand out, designed for anyone seeking versatility and respect for the environment. The car is powered by a latest-generation hybrid engine, with a displacement of 1.2 L, 3 cylinders and 100 hp (74 kW) , and 48V hybrid technology, pairing maximum efficiency with the utmost reliability. With a top speed of 190 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 in 9 seconds and at the same time extremely low emissions, between 103 and 104 g/km in the WLTP cycle, the model is positioned as the best mild hybrid in its class in terms of efficiency and performance, capable of guaranteeing electric driving for 25% of its range.
The hybrid version is equipped with six-speed e-DCT automatic transmission and – with the support of electronic functions such as e-Start, e-Parking, e-Queuing, and e-Creeping – makes it possible for the driver to adapt their driving style to their requirements.
Easy public and private charging courtesy of Free2move Charge
The new electric Lancia Ypsilon is supported by Free2move Charge. The charging offer, accessible to all Lancia customers, consists of two solutions: for the home (Free2move Charge Home), and on the go (Free2move Charge Go).
For the home, Lancia and Free2move Charge have selected the Easy Wallbox, for fast and safe charging. Customers can obtain their own Easy Wallbox immediately after ordering the car, to have it installed at home before their new Ypsilon is delivered. If they do not wish to install the Easy Wallbox themselves, Lancia customers can be supported by a Free2move Charge certified installer. All it takes is a call to customer service.
On the other hand, when travelling or for whenever else you're away from home, the offer includes public charging. All Lancia customers can easily access the extensive network of Free2move Charge Go public charging points. Using the charging pass to be delivered together with the electric Lancia Ypsilon and Lancia Ypsilon LX, customers will be able to charge their car at over 700,000 public charging points across Europe, with a single account and simplified payment.
Lancia’s timeless elegance
The front of the New Lancia Ypsilon recalls the historic Lancia grille, the 'chalice,’ with three LED beams that make it iconic and unique, on a par with the round LED headlights at the rear – a tribute to the rallying legend the Lancia Stratos, which include the letter Y positioned horizontally, representing a new design cue. The two taillights also frame the new Lancia lettering. The dialog between purity and radicalism continues in the Ypsilon lettering on the front and rear, the ‘handwritten’ characters of which are inspired by iconic and historic Lancia cars such as the Fulvia, Flavia and Flaminia. Another prestigious detail is the Lancia shield, set on the C-pillar of the car like a true gem.
Consistently, in the interiors, each trim recalls the idea of feeling at home, simultaneously elegant and sustainable, in perfect Lancia style.
The partnership with Cassina – an outstanding Italian brand in the field of high-end furnishings – is reflected in the attention to the stylistic details and the choice of materials and colors: every detail is taken care of to create a hospitable, welcoming environment. The values that have guided the two brands in this journey are the Italian spirit, a taste for the iconic, innovation, research, and respect for tradition, as well as attention to environmental issues. The main distinctive element is the Cassina multifunctional tavolino table, a brand-new design cue, seen for the first time inside a car and made of bio-based plastic. Lancia thus creates a welcoming and hospitable space, the elegance of which is contributed to by other details such as the refined upholstery of the door and dashboard panels of the New Lancia Ypsilon LX version, made by Limonta and the FILI PARI startup in MARM \ MORE – an innovative material, recycled fabric, made with natural colors, soft to the touch and waterproof. Lancia thus transforms the passenger compartment into an authentic ‘living room,’ in line with the values set out in the brand’s 10-year strategic plan, with 50% of the touchable surfaces made with eco-sustainable materials.
Lancia's timeless elegance is also reflected in the color palette available for the bodywork of the New Lancia Ypsilon. A selection of shades that emphasizes the deep bond between the brand and its home country, while at the same time playing on Lancia's historical values and the refinement and excellence typical of a premium brand.
Six shades are available for the first two trim levels, in addition to the two-tone variants marked out by their pairing with a black roof: Grigio Granito, Nero Ardesia, Bianco Marmo, Blu Lancia, Verde Giada, Oro. Conversely, the NEW LANCIA YPSILON EDIZIONE CASSINA solely features the exclusive Blu Lancia tone, an iconic color in the brand's tradition. Each color is immediately reminiscent of a distinctive, prestigious, typically Italian material, in the veritable ideal journey along the Italian peninsula.
