XJ New Jaguar XJC Coupe

The Jaguar XJ is a series of mid-size/full-size luxury cars produced from 1968 to 2019. It was produced across four basic platform generations (debuting in 1968, 1986, 2003, and 2009) with various updated derivatives of each. From 1970, it was Jaguar's flagship four-door model. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have been designed under the leadership of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder, and the model has been featured in countless media and high-profile appearances.

As if the release of the all-new Jaguar XJ wasn’t exciting enough, we’ve been blown away by news from Jaguar’s Director of Design Ian Callum that his team have already started sketching an XJC version.

The original Jaguar XJC was a two-door Coupe built between 1975-1978 and was based on the short wheelbase version of the Series Two Jaguar XJ. Though the car sold in pretty limited numbers, today, the car’s elegant proportions, pillarless door frames and vinyl roof have acquired cult status.

This latest version of the XJC isn’t anywhere near sign-off, but no car could so ardently celebrate the respectful transition to modernity Ian Callum has made with the Jaguar brand. It was all bowling greens and elbow patches before his arrival in 1999, and now we're (potentially) looking at a Jaguar XJC featuring a full-length glass roof, 21in rims and the new XJ's hi-tech cabin. Having this level of creative rope extended at Jaguar has only been possible because Callum remains one of the most powerful (and benign) men in the car industry.

Wow, the unrivaled CL may finally have a competitor. Good Luck Jaguar.

It actually works much better as coupe, blacked out rear pillar and all. Interesting, but what happens to the XK Coupe?

I guess, but for some reason I don't see Jaguar being able to sell both like Mercedes does. Time to get rid of the little rear seats (shelves) in the XK then.

The XK was planned before this man, and not to mention the XJC right now is pure speculation. No word from Jaguar, so this is some dude's fantasy right now.

The XK was planned before this...uh...yeah its been around for years...whats your point?

The changes you want implemented don't happen overnight. They're not just going to say "oh, we should just take out the seats from the back of the xk" and it will happen. All this sh!t is planned in advance.

Mere details, no big deal at all. Its removing seats, not re-designing the car. If Jaguar is planning a XJC (yeah we know speculation) then they'd also be taking a look at the XK to make sure it doesn't become irrelevant.

It's a chop, but it actually works much better for that rear. Not so much for the sedan tho...

Jaguar XJ Coupe may be under consideration

The man behind the team that penned the new Jaguar XJ, Ian Callum, has let slip that his crews drawing instruments are again at work again, this time on an XJC. That would be a coupe version of the XJ, something not seen since 1978. In an interview with Motoring Sky during the new XJ's unveiling, Callum admitted that the English automaker hasn't just thought about it: "We've actually drawn one already, but who knows." That's probably as solid an indication that buyers might get a crack at a coupe model as we're likely to get for some time. If the car Callum's posse draws looks anything like the rendering shown here, then we almost think it's worth buying the sedan just to be able to help Jag build the business case for the coupe. In the interview, Callum also talks about the car's controversial blacked-out rear pillars and a series hybrid in the works. Click the link for the interview, and if you're keen on the idea of a XJC, then get your wallets out to cast your vote.

repost… :D …merge it with the other thread…

edit: done…

Wow works very well as a coupe!!

Bring it on, Mercedes you gonna have to work miracles with the S-class coupe to play with this cat:D

That chop looks amazingly good! The rear is suddenly more forgiving and the C-pillar makes the car look normal. Man I hope they change that C-pillar before production!

This is a good chop to show the XJ with the mainstream C-piller. I think that if Jaguar went this route, then the body colored strip that goes across the roof separating the panoramic roof from the rear screen should be blacked out, as is done with MB's panoramic spec'd models.
