New interview with Ulrich Bruhnke regarding M

and once again i dont care what bmw fans or bmw say..
the car is wierd
That's your ompinion and i respect it
and thats why they dont make a M .. but they will never admit it..maybe in 20 years..
This is BS. :)

Three new M models a year is a lot. I'm not sure I like how much the brand is expanding. It's going to become like AMG, where you have an AMG model for just about every car in the regular line up. I liked there being few M cars. It made them unique, rare (somewhat) and special.

BMW dont have as many models as MB. At least there wont be a X5M and also there is a reason why BMW hired Brunhke from AMG. Expanding..... :D

I must say that i agree.

Exactly. BMW wanted Bruhnke - to bring organizational know-how from AMG and apply it to M GmbH: to expand the product line - while stile staying true to the M essence: driving performance.

While more BMW models will wear M badge, CSL will become the "new M": extremely hardcore performance - bare BMW essence. CSL will be exclusive, built in limited editions.

so in the future we will be looking at:
s line:
sporty performance ona standard car, for when the car doesn't qualify for M, or the gap is too big

M line:
reingeneered cars with special treatment, although a bit more mass produced

CSL:
extra special cars, gadgets cut out, lightweight experience, reserved, i guess, for M6 CSl, M3 CSL, MZ4 CSL, and possibly a range topping supercar

i guess thats the way the story will go now
same with audi

S
RS:D
..
and AMG are working on speciall performance modells.. :D..

100% correct.
Although "s" line won't be only the top-end standard sporty models, but also some special sporty versions: e.g. 120si, 320si etc. Kind a "special sport package".

The only expansion being done w/ M cars is the increased availability of M's available in the 3 series line, weather that be coupe, carbrio, or sedan - only one more addt. to the current lineup, as where no E46 M3 sedan exsists. Perhaps an M car for the 2 series(don't know that such a name still exsists for the two door version of the 1 series w/ a trunk as opposed to a hatch) and the forthcoming crossover vehicle. What else I can't imagine, but I'm more than sure that BMW will not flood the market w/ high performance "M" badged BMW's as MB has done w/ the AMG brand. If it helps any, remember these words from my uncle Ulrich(:D ) in an interview w/ Bimmer magazine, "If we do an M, we do an M. Otherwise it would be just a BMW with more performance.":usa7uh:

- The goal is to release three new M models every year

Three new M-models every year may give:

2006:
- Z4M Roadster
- Z4M Coupe
- M6 cab

2007:
- M3 Sedan
- M3 Coupe
- M5 touring

2008:
- M3 touring
- M3 cab
- M2 Coupe

2009:
- M2 cab
- M7
- X6M

Deutsch,

I hope you're right but remember that BMW (an every other car manufacturer) is merely a company out to make a profit and if exploiting/expanding the M model lineup will help raise those profits, then I imagine that they're going to do it. It's the sad truth!

What I'm really interested in ///M is the CSLes. I would like them to be the most agile german cars, like in the good old days, the umatched 328, the ultra agile and light 2002 (Tii) and 3.0/3.5 CSL that would put Porsche's to shame in corners only that now they would not have a power disadvantage.
Today's bimmers have power but weight advantage of the 328, 2002 and CSL is sadly lost.
I'm so sick of Porsche fan(atic)s braging about agility, handling and so on. ///M was created to take on Porsche, not MB/AMG, so hope they will lose the damn fat and hope they would make a M2 and a Z4 M CSL.

That's a pretty realistic schedual, though I hope that BMW will make a twist and maby squeeze out 4 M cars this year.

The skies over Germany were full of trial balloons this week, as BMW chairman Helmut Panke has been teasing the German press with possible new products. In an interview with auto motor und sport (rough English translation here), Panke alludes to several possible new BMW models:
  • an M7? An M-version of BMW's 7-Series would be positioned against Mercedes' S63 AMG. Panke says market demand for an M7 is particularly strong in the U.S.
  • a baby Phantom? With a fully-equipped long wheelbase 7-Series coming in at around $215,000, and the Phantom selling for about $460,000, Panke believes there could well be a potential market at a $300,000 price point. However, he doesn't think that this luxo-model should be a BMW, which suggests that a smaller Rolls might be in the cards.
  • a Z8 successor? BMW didn't set the world on fire with its upmarket sports car, but Panke still sees an unserved sports car market segment waiting to be tapped by the right BMW product.

I`m wondering why we need an M7 when Alpina plans to ship the B7 here to the US.
