New I4 with 204hp Diesel Engine

Timing? When will BMW models equipped with this engine be hitting the streets?

We are talking original out-of-the-factory engines here, not tuned ones.

Of course tuners can manipulate turbo engines to produce much more then the original out-of-the-factory ones.
Name Alpina a tuner and they will kick your a$$ :D Their D3 Engine is actually out-of-a-BMW-factory and not aftermarket tuned, producing 200 HP and 410 Nm of torque. Back in the mid-90's Alpina developed the 3.0L I6 Biturbo-Diesel for the E39 D10, at a time when BMW didn't dare to touch this technology. Rumor has ist, that the current BMW 3.0L I6 Diesel Biturbo carries a lot of Alpina Knowledge down in it's crankshaft.

At the heart of the matter is the 2.0litre diesel, endowed with so much potential by the BMW engineers in Steyr that it achieves just over 100 horsepower per litre in the BMW ALPINA D3. This would be a great result for a high-performance petrol engine, and it’s a sensation coming from a diesel. Garrett, of turbo-charger fame, are able to deliver a new charger that simultaneously achieves high levels of air mass through-put with outstanding responsiveness. ALPINA engineers performed intensive development work on the injection system, burn pattern, inter-cooling and exhaust gas emissions (particle filter). The result: 200hp (147kW) at 4,000rpm

This good for BMW and the industry. With an engine like this, the difference between a petrol engine and a diesel engine in terms of performance is diminishing.
I have a feeling we will see this in the 1er and the Mini first.

1er coupe is definitely getting it.

The question remains whether 3er is getting this engine already in September.

So, debut in 3er in September, or 1er coupe few months later ... :usa7uh:

This engine in the 1er seems perfect!

I love engines like this, pretty fast and very economical, can't beat them!

The developpement of the engine was known as Apollo Project.

The facelift 120d already have a 10kW and 10Nm increase over the pre-facelift 120d, so BMW will upgrade the 120d once again with this new one in a few month's time?

My biggest question is how this engine will sound, I still can't accept the fact diesel engines that sounds like trucks or Toyota Hi-Ace's... the sound of, for example, 535d is certainly nothing like a diesel! but can these I-4s do it?

No, 1er cars with I4 VTT will be labeled 123d (or perhaps 125d).

I was told today I can order the 123 diesel now. They start production in September and delivery November. They only come in 6 speed stick shift no auto.

the 3.0 VVT diesel BMW has in the 535d can push 100hp liter plus if it is remapped
this is the first production trim engine
